Job Title:
CNC Machine Operator Job Description The CNC Machine Operator sets up, operates, and monitors CNC mills and lathes to produce high-quality metal components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. This role ensures parts meet precise tolerances through accurate machine operation and thorough inspection using precision measuring tools. Responsibilities Operate CNC mills and/or lathes to manufacture parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. Load raw materials and securely clamp parts into fixtures or vises to ensure safe and accurate machining. Perform basic CNC machine setups, including installing and changing tools as required for each job. Adjust machine offsets as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality. Monitor CNC machine operations throughout production runs to ensure consistent quality and adherence to specified tolerances. Inspect in-process and finished parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Interpret and follow blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements. Perform machine changeovers between jobs, including setup adjustments and tooling changes. Troubleshoot basic mechanical and operational issues with CNC machines to minimize downtime. Use computer interfaces and controls to run CNC programs and document production as required. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures while operating machinery. Essential Skills Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. Proficiency in operating CNC mills and/or lathes. Experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Basic CNC setup skills, including tool changes and offset adjustments. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic machine issues. Ability to perform machine changeovers between different production runs. Basic computer operation skills for running CNC programs and entering production data. Strong attention to detail to ensure parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards. Prior CNC operator experience is a plus. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a production or manufacturing environment. Comfort working with metal components and precision machining processes. Strong problem-solving skills for addressing machining and quality issues. Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions and procedures. Work Environment This role is based in a production and machining environment operating CNC mills and lathes to produce metal components. You will regularly work with CNC equipment, computer-based machine controls, and precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. The position involves standing for extended periods, handling raw materials, and working around moving machinery while following established safety procedures. Standard manufacturing facility practices apply, including appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment as required by shop safety guidelines. Working hours and shift details may vary based on production needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
