Position Overview The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) routers used in the production of custom millwork, cabinetry, and architectural woodwork components. This role serves as the primary machine operator on the shop floor and requires strong technical knowledge of CNC programming, wood materials, and quality standards. The CNC Operator ensures all parts are machined accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with shop drawings, work orders (if available), and quality specifications. Key Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation Set up, calibrate, and operate CNC routers and milling machines for production of custom millwork, cabinetry, and architectural wood components. Read and interpret shop drawings, work orders, CAD files, and blueprints to determine cutting paths, tool selections, and machine parameters. Load, position, and secure raw materials (solid wood, MDF, plywood, melamine, etc.) onto CNC beds with proper alignment. Input, edit, and adjust CNC programs (G-code or software-driven toolpaths) to meet part specifications and production requirements. Perform trial/test cuts and make offsets or tool adjustments prior to full production runs. Quality Control & Inspection Inspect finished parts using calipers, tape measures, squares, and other precision measuring tools to verify conformance to drawings and tolerances. Examine raw material stock for defects such as warping, knots, voids, or delamination before running production. Identify and report non-conforming parts and coordinate with the shop foreman for disposition or rework. Maintain accurate production logs, cut sheets, and quality inspection records. Tooling & Machine Maintenance Monitor tooling condition throughout production runs; replace or rotate router bits, drill bits, and saw blades as needed. Perform routine preventive maintenance on CNC equipment including cleaning, lubrication, dust collection system checks, and vacuum pod/spoilboard maintenance. Identify and report mechanical issues, unusual machine behavior, or toolpath errors to maintenance staff or the shop foreman promptly. Maintain an organized and well-stocked tooling area; track tool inventory and submit requests for replacement tooling. Shop Floor Coordination & Safety Coordinate with production schedulers, shop foreman, and other departments to prioritize job runs and meet project deadlines. Direct and mentor Junior CNC Operators and shop helpers, providing guidance on machine operation, safety, and quality expectations. Adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE), dust control measures, and safe material handling. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around all CNC equipment at all times. Assist with material handling, including receiving, staging, and organizing sheet goods and solid wood stock. Clean the shop as directed Load and empty trash as directed Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience High school diploma or GED/Equivalent experience required; vocational/technical training in CNC machining, woodworking, or a related field preferred. Minimum 2-4 years of experience operating CNC routers or CNC milling machines, preferably in a millwork, cabinetry, or woodworking production environment. Hands-on experience with CNC software platforms (e.g., Microvellum, WoodWop, or similar). Experience reading and interpreting shop drawings and technical work orders (If available). Required Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of CNC programming principles including G-code, toolpaths, feed rates, and cutting speeds. Solid knowledge of wood species, sheet goods, MDF, and engineered wood products commonly used in millwork production. Proficiency with precision measuring tools (calipers, tape measure, combination square, digital gauges). Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Ability to work independently and manage multiple job runs with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate parts. Effective verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with production, engineering, and shop floor teams.

Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift (8-10 hours). Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver sheet goods and solid wood panels up to 80 lbs.; heavier loads require team lift or forklift assistance. Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and stooping during machine setup and material loading. Comfortable working in a shop environment with wood dust, noise, and industrial machinery; proper PPE required at all times. Compensation & Benefits Pay Range:
