Job Description
Job Title:
CNC Operator Job Description The CNC Operator sets up and runs CNC mills and lathes in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment, producing high-quality parts according to blueprints and specifications. This role involves operating multiple machines in a robot cell structure, performing precise inspections with measuring tools, and handling repetitive lifting throughout the shift. The position offers clearly defined skill levels with opportunities to advance as you develop your technical capabilities. Responsibilities Operate CNC mills and lathes, including running production on various machines in a robot cell structure. Load and unload parts from machines, repeatedly lifting 15+ pounds throughout the shift. Follow blueprints and drawings to produce parts that meet specified dimensions and tolerances. Perform in-process and final inspections on parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. Monitor machine operations, make basic adjustments, and ensure machines run efficiently and safely. Work with CNC equipment including Doosan and Okuma machines, and adapt to different models as needed. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines. Collaborate with team members and communicate any quality or equipment issues to the appropriate personnel. Progress through skill levels by learning to make offsets and eventually set up machines, depending on experience and performance. Essential Skills At least 6 months of machine operating experience, preferably in a CNC environment. Hands-on experience operating CNC machines, including mills and lathes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. Ability to repetitively lift 15+ pounds throughout the shift. Familiarity with CNC equipment from manufacturers such as Doosan and Okuma. Ability to work safely and efficiently while operating multiple machines in a robot cell structure. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating both CNC mills and CNC lathes. Prior exposure to Doosan and Okuma CNC machines. Ability to make machine offsets and adjust programs as skills progress. Ability to perform basic machine setups, with potential to advance to full setup responsibilities. Comfort working in a structured, multi-shift manufacturing environment. Why Work Here? You will join a stable organization that combines a small-town, close-knit atmosphere with the resources of a larger company. The benefits package includes health, dental, vision, HSA options, life insurance, hospital plans, and short- and long-term disability coverage. The company provides paid life insurance and short-term disability, a retirement plan with up to a 4% match, tuition reimbursement, and an employee referral bonus program. Paid time off begins after 90 days, with additional PTO after one year, and the company is willing to be flexible by offering extra PTO rather than higher starting pay in some cases. You will enjoy a supportive culture with fun events such as root beer float days, chili cook-offs, summer parties, and holiday celebrations, along with practical perks like a shoe reimbursement program, provided shirts and hoodies, free coffee, and a convenient on-site vending service. Work Environment The role is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility operating on multiple shifts from Monday through Thursday, with a Sunday through Thursday schedule for third shift. First shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., second shift from 2:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., and third shift from 10:30 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. Second shift includes a shift premium, and third shift offers a higher premium, with premiums applied when the majority of hours are worked on an off-shift. The environment features CNC mills and lathes, including Doosan and Okuma machines, often arranged in robot cell structures where operators run multiple machines simultaneously. The facility supports three levels of CNC operators—entry-level button-pushers, intermediate operators who can make offsets, and advanced operators who can set up their own machines—providing a structured path for growth. Employees receive company-provided shirts and hoodies, access to a "mini gas station" style vending area, and free coffee on site.
