Job Description

Job Title:
CNC Programmer Job Description The CNC Programmer will work in a dynamic job shop environment, creating and optimizing CNC programs for mills and lathes using Mastercam, Mazatrol controls, and G & M code. This role focuses on programming from prints, proving out programs on the shop floor, and collaborating closely with machine operators to ensure parts consistently meet specifications. Responsibilities Utilize engineering prints and drawings to create CNC programs using Mastercam. Develop and write CNC programs for both milling machines and lathes. Program using Mazatrol controls as well as standard G & M code. Spend approximately 70% of the time writing CNC programs and 30% proving them out on the machines. Verify that newly created programs run correctly and safely on the equipment. Work closely with CNC operators to ensure parts meet required specifications and quality standards. Adjust and optimize programs as needed based on feedback, inspection results, and machining performance. Support setup activities by ensuring programs are clear, accurate, and efficient for machine operators. Troubleshoot programming-related issues that arise during setup or production. Contribute to continuous improvement of machining processes and cycle times through program refinement. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC Programmer. Proficiency in Mastercam for creating and editing CNC programs. Strong CNC programming experience for both mills and lathes. Ability to set up CNC machines to support program prove-out and optimization. Hands-on machining experience and understanding of machining processes. Experience programming with Mazatrol controls. Ability to write and interpret G & M code. Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and technical drawings. Strong attention to detail to ensure parts meet specifications. Effective communication skills to collaborate with machine operators and shop personnel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a job shop environment with a variety of parts and setups. Comfort working with multiple CNC machines, including both mills and lathes. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining and programming issues on the shop floor. Continuous improvement mindset focused on efficiency, quality, and reliability. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a job shop environment with approximately 20 CNC machines, including a mix of mills and lathes. The facility is well lit and designed to support efficient, precise machining work. Standard safety attire is required, including steel-toe footwear and eye protection while on the shop floor. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional pre- or post-shift work of up to one hour when needed. The maximum expected workweek is 50 hours, and weekend work is minimal to rare, supporting a stable and predictable work-life balance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
