CNC Lathe Programmer / Setup Lead L.A. Martin Company Dearborn, MI Job Details Full-time $26 - $35 an hour 20 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off 401(k) 5% Match Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications CNC lathe Tooling G-code Turning Process improvement Manufacturing CNC machine setup CAM programming Full Job Description CNC Lathe Setup Machinist / ProgrammerJob Overview We are looking for an experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinist / Programmer to join our manufacturing team. This position is best suited for someone who can take a print, plan the job, choose tooling, write or edit programs, set up the machine, and prove out parts. Most of the work will be CNC lathe work, but CNC mill experience is also a plus. We are a job shop, so the work changes. The right person needs to be comfortable with setups, troubleshooting, inspection, and making good decisions at the machine. This is not a button-pushing position. Responsibilities Program, edit, set up, and operate CNC lathes using Fanuc-style controls. Set up jobs from prints, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and process planning. Read and interpret blueprints, tolerances, and GD&T requirements. Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, thread gauges, and other common inspection tools. Make adjustments to programs, tooling, speeds, feeds, and offsets as needed. Troubleshoot machining issues such as chatter, tool wear, size variation, finish problems, and cycle time concerns. Work with short-run and medium-run production jobs. Help improve repeatability, efficiency, and overall process reliability. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Communicate clearly with management, quality, and other shop employees when issues come up.
Experience / Qualifications
Experience setting up and operating CNC lathes is required. CNC lathe programming or strong program-editing experience is preferred. Fanuc control experience is strongly preferred. Ability to read prints and understand tight tolerances. Strong knowledge of tooling, inserts, workholding, offsets, and basic machining practices. Ability to inspect your own work using standard precision measuring tools. Macro B experience is a plus. CAM experience is a plus, but not required. We use Gibbscam and it's easy to teach. Live tooling and sub-spindle experience is a plus. Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who has real setup experience and understands how to make parts correctly, not just run a machine after someone else has done the hard part. We are looking for someone who can think through a job, solve problems, and help keep work moving through the shop. A strong CNC lathe person with good judgment and a solid work ethic would be a good fit. Important Info Due to ITAR rules and regulations, employees must provide proof of US citizenship.
