Mendota Heights, MN Job Summary:
The CNC Programmer is responsible for programming and optimizing CNC vertical milling machines to manufacture high-precision components while ensuring efficiency and adherence to engineering specifications. This role also supports quality assurance through programming of the InspecVision optical inspection system and is responsible for the procurement, inventory control, and management of Die Room materials, tooling, and cutting tools.
Duties/Responsibilities:
•
CNC & Inspection Programming:
Utilize advanced CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM) to create, edit, and optimize CNC programs for machining tooling components on CNC Vertical Machining Centers. Program InspecVision optical inspection machine to support quality control and automated part verification. •
Blueprint & Specifications Analysis :
Interpret blueprints, CAD models, technical drawings, and geometric tolerances to determine optimal machining processes, tooling, and techniques to meet production quality standards. •
Program Sheet Creation:
Develop clear and detailed program sheets for operators, illustrating program intent, including pickup points, tools used, machine setups, tool paths, and grind stock designations to ensure efficient and accurate machining. •
Troubleshooting & Process Improvement:
Diagnose and resolve machining issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules. Continuously evaluate and improve processes to enhance productivity, reduce cycle times, and maintain quality. •
Tooling Procurement & Materials Management:
Purchase inventory of cutting tools and tooling build materials as specified on new tool design BOMs, ensuring availability of commonly used items, tracking tool life, and coordinating timely reordering to prevent production delays. •
Documentation & Updates:
Maintain accurate programming documentation and update CNC programs to reflect process improvements, design changes, or customer specifications. •
Collaboration:
Work closely with design engineers, operators, and production managers to align programming efforts with manufacturing goals. •
Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on advancements in CNC programming, machining technologies, and fabrication techniques to drive innovation and improve production processes. •
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all established safety procedures and compliance guidelines. • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
•
CNC Programming Expertise:
Minimum 5 years of experience programming CNC milling machines in a metal stamping manufacturing environment. Proficient in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM) and G-code programming for precise CNC machine operation. •
Machining & Fabrication Knowledge:
Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, including tool selection, cutting tool materials, feeds, speeds, and setup for various steel types and composites. •
Technical Interpretation:
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and geometric tolerances to ensure accurate CNC programming and machining. •
Tooling & Process Optimization:
Skilled in selecting, managing, and optimizing cutting tools based on material, machine capabilities, and desired finish, ensuring tool availability and quality. • Attention to detail: Ability to conduct quality inspections and identify defects or inconsistencies. •
Problem-solving:
Troubleshooting and addressing issues that arise during machine-related issues. •
Communication:
Clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and other departments. •
Time Management:
Efficiently manage time to meet production deadlines. •
Safety Awareness:
Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
Pay:
$24.00 - $30.00 per hour
Experience:
