Job Title:
CNC Programmer Job Description The CNC Programmer plans, develops, and optimizes CNC programs to support efficient, high-quality metal manufacturing operations. This role reviews prints and models, selects appropriate machines and tooling, designs fixtures as needed, and uses MasterCam software to create and verify CNC programs. The CNC Programmer works closely with machine operators to ensure programs run as intended, supports continuous improvement of processes, and upholds safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Receive work assignments and schedule programming tasks according to required due dates. Review engineering prints and 3D models to fully understand part requirements and specifications. Determine the most suitable CNC machine and tooling for each part, balancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Use current MasterCam software to create, modify, and verify CNC programs for mills, lathes, and 5-axis equipment. Collaborate with machine operators to verify programs, tooling, and fixturing on the selected machines and ensure they perform as intended. Design and develop fixtures as necessary to support reliable and repeatable machining processes. Evaluate and order tooling as needed to support new and existing jobs, ensuring compatibility with equipment and processes. Program CNC equipment effectively and efficiently using CAM software, focusing on quality, throughput, and repeatability. Interface regularly with operators to communicate operations, tooling, and fixturing requirements and to resolve programming-related issues. Preserve and maintain proven CNC programs, ensuring they are stored, documented, and accessible for future use. Maintain workflow by using production schedules and time management practices to ensure operators receive programs before they are needed on the shop floor. Direct requests for software, tooling, and fixturing to plant leadership as appropriate. Exemplify and enforce company core values and quality standards in all programming and production support activities. Maintain and develop professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and building professional networks. Support and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following company policies and OSHA requirements. Provide day-to-day guidance and immediate supervision to employees when needed, including assigning tasks and checking work at frequent intervals. Contribute to process improvement by creatively solving problems and collaborating with others to generate and implement ideas. Essential Skills Current, hands-on experience programming CNC equipment using MasterCam software. Strong understanding of CNC tooling equipment, tooling processes, and relevant industrial standards. Experience with manufacturing equipment and processes in a metal manufacturing or machining environment. Experience in set-up and operation of manufacturing equipment, including mills, lathes, and machining centers. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, including GD&T. Demonstrated ability to program CNC machines, including 5-axis machining, using MasterCam. Capability to set up machines and verify programs, tooling, and fixturing on the shop floor. Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze information and prioritize work based on production schedules. Commitment to meeting and maintaining company quality standards. Consistent adherence to safety practices and ability to maintain a safe work environment. Ability to handle programming work of diverse scope and complexity. Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with machine operators and other team members. Reliable attendance and ability to complete high-quality work on time. Ability to provide immediate supervision, assign tasks, and check work at frequent intervals when required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in metal manufacturing, metal forming, or machining environments. Experience with CNC mills, CNC lathes, and general machining operations. Knowledge of stamping operations and fastener manufacturing is beneficial. Familiarity with process improvement and continuous improvement methodologies. Ability to coach and develop others in a team setting. Strong problem-solving skills with a creative and proactive approach to improving processes. Comfort working with both software tools and hands-on shop floor activities. Interest in ongoing professional development through workshops, publications, and networking. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role supports a primarily stamping-focused manufacturing facility that produces fasteners for the steel industry, alongside broader metal forming and machining operations. You will work closely with CNC mills, lathes, 5-axis equipment, and related tooling and fixturing, using MasterCam as the primary CAM platform. The environment emphasizes safety and adherence to OSHA requirements, as well as maintaining high quality and productivity standards. The position follows a standard shift with some overtime required after training is complete. Work is performed on the shop floor and in an office or programming area, requiring regular interaction with machine operators and production staff in a hands-on, industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Solon, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $83200.00 - $83200.00/yr.
