Job Title:

CNC Machinist / Programmer Job Description This role combines hands-on CNC machining and programming, focusing on Doosan and Haas mills and lathes with Fanuc controls in a fast-paced, high-mix machine shop. You will create and optimize G-code directly at the machine, perform full setups, run production, and ensure high-quality parts that support industries such as military, automation, robotics, and entertainment. The shop is a growing, family-run business seeking both a CNC setup and operations machinist and a CNC programmer to join a collaborative and quality-driven team. Responsibilities Program CNC mills and lathes using G-code directly at the machine on Fanuc controls. Set up, operate, and troubleshoot Doosan and Haas CNC mills and lathes. Perform complete machine setups, including workholding, tooling selection, tool offsets, and probing. Create, edit, and optimize G-code programs to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cycle times. Set up and run vertical, horizontal, and 5-axis milling machines, including live tooling applications. Operate lathes and mills to produce precision parts while maintaining tight tolerances. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to ensure parts meet specifications. Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials and applications. Perform first article inspections and adjust programs or setups as needed to achieve dimensional accuracy. Verify part quality using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges. Support prototype and production machining, including Swiss-style machining where applicable. Perform routine machine maintenance and proactively report mechanical or control issues. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve machining processes and workflows. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with shop standards. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance quality, throughput, and efficiency. Essential Skills Minimum 3+ years of CNC machining experience on mills and lathes. Strong G-code programming skills on Fanuc controls, including writing and editing programs at the machine. Hands-on experience setting up and operating Doosan and Haas CNC machines. Ability to perform complete setups, including workholding, tooling, offsets, and probing. Experience with vertical and horizontal milling machines, including 5-axis machining. Proficiency in operating both CNC lathes and mills. Solid understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, materials, and cutting parameters. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T symbols. Proficiency with precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges. Ability to work independently to diagnose and solve machining and programming problems. Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to producing high-quality parts. Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-oriented machine shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with live tooling on lathes. Experience with 5-axis machining centers. Exposure to Swiss-style machining, including Citizen Swiss machines, is a plus. Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools. Exposure to CAM software and Mastercam programming (programming is primarily G-code at the machine). Experience with prototype machining and one-off or short-run parts. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Mechanicsburg, PA.
