Job Description

Job Title:
CNC Programmer Job Description This CNC Programmer position supports the launch of a new product line within a manufacturing facility while managing overflow programming needs across existing operations. You will play a key role in new-product introduction by creating accurate CNC programs, optimizing fabrication processes, and ensuring efficient workflow. The role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on problem-solving, and close collaboration with engineering, production, and quality teams to improve manufacturability and reduce cycle times. Responsibilities Develop, modify, and optimize NC/CNC programs to support the introduction of a new product line. Create and maintain programs for laser cutting, punching, bending, and other fabrication processes, preferably using BySoft CAM. Support overflow programming needs to ensure production schedules and customer commitments are consistently met. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, models, and specifications to generate accurate toolpaths and machining strategies. Collaborate closely with manufacturing and design engineers to refine manufacturability, reduce cycle times, and improve process efficiency. Validate CNC programs through simulations, test runs, and on‑machine verification to ensure accuracy and reliability. Troubleshoot programming issues on the shop floor and provide technical support and guidance to machine operators. Maintain organized documentation, including program files, revision control, and process standards, to support traceability and continuous improvement. Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling, workflow, and programming efficiency within the fabrication and machining areas. Use CATIA or other CAD tools to verify design accuracy and alignment between models, drawings, and programmed toolpaths. Work collaboratively with engineering teams to ensure that design intent is accurately translated into manufacturable programs. Essential Skills Minimum 3 years of NC/CNC programming experience in a manufacturing environment (3-5 years preferred). Proficiency in CNC programming for tools and parts, including experience with mills and machining operations. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D models. Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, machining, or related manufacturing processes. Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles. Experience creating programs for laser cutting, punching, bending, and other fabrication processes. Proficiency with BySoft CAM software is strongly preferred for programming fabrication equipment. Experience working within and alongside engineering teams to align design and manufacturing requirements. Hands-on problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot programming and machining issues on the shop floor. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for managing program revisions and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CATIA and CAD software for verifying design accuracy and supporting program development. Experience in using CAD tools to validate models and ensure consistency between design and manufacturing outputs. Experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling, workflow, and programming efficiency. Comfort working in a contract role, with the potential for contract extensions based on performance and business needs. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing plant that is undergoing a significant transformation, evolving into a central hub for multiple product lines rather than a single product. You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams on the shop floor and in an office or programming area, using technologies such as BySoft CAM, CATIA, and other CAD/CAM tools. The environment is dynamic and production-focused, with an emphasis on meeting schedules, supporting new-product introductions, and continuously improving fabrication and machining processes. Contract assignments may be extended for individuals who demonstrate strong performance and alignment with operational needs.
