This onsite role splits time between a desk-based CAM environment and the shop floor. You will collaborate closely with machinists, setup technicians, and quality control to ensure part accuracy, reduce cycle times, and minimize material scrap.
Key Responsibilities Program Development:
Create and optimize CNC programs for mills and lathes using , Gibbscam .
Blueprint Analysis:
Interpret complex technical drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) symbols, and engineering specifications.
First-Article Validation:
Perform machine setups and run initial test pieces to verify program paths, tool geometries, and work holding configurations.
Process Optimization:
Refine existing programs to improve machine cycle times, extend tool life, and increase manufacturing throughput.
Fixture Design:
Conceptualize and design custom fixtures and work holding setups to secure raw materials during intensive machining cycles.
Troubleshooting:
Diagnose program errors, machine alarms, or tooling failures on the shop floor to maintain production deadlines.
Quality Assurance:
Inspect finished parts using precision tools including micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges to verify exact tolerances.
Required Skills & Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of dedicated CNC programming experience in a fast-paced production or job shop environment.
Software Proficiency:
Expert-level capability in CAD/CAM platforms such as Gibbscam, Mastercam and Fusion.
Controller Literacy:
Strong familiarity with specific machine controls such as Fanuc, Haas, or Mazatrol.
Technical Math:
Excellent understanding of geometry, trigonometry, and technical calculations required for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
Tooling Knowledge:
Thorough understanding of cutting tool materials, geometries, and coding structures (G-code/M-code).
Autonomy:
Proven capability to read blueprints, select correct work holding, and run first-article components with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points) Experience with advanced multi-axis machining (e.g., 5-axis mill-turn centers or live-tooling lathes). Formal technical degree, apprenticeship certification, or journeyship in manufacturing technology. Background in lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement (CI), or AI-assisted programming tools (e.g., CloudNC Cam Assist).
