Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.
This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. We are seeking an experienced Precision CNC Programmer / Machinist to support the production of high-precision injection mold and automation components. This role combines advanced CNC programming with hands-on machining in a fast-paced, precision-focused environment. Key Responsibilities Program, set up, and optimize 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling operations
Create and refine toolpaths using Mastercam or similar CAM software
Machine and inspect precision components to tolerances as tight as ±0.0001"
Prove out programs, troubleshoot machining issues, and improve setup and cycle times
Collaborate with toolmakers, machinists, and engineers to support tooling and automation projects
Maintain documentation, machining standards, and process consistency Requirements High school diploma or GED required; trade school or advanced manufacturing education preferred
5+ years of CNC programming experience, including 3-axis and 5-axis machining
5+ years of experience in a toolroom, mold shop, or precision machining environment
Proven experience machining tight-tolerance components to ±0.0001"
Advanced proficiency with Mastercam or equivalent CAM software
Strong understanding of GD&T, fixturing, tooling, and close-tolerance machining
Experience with injection mold tooling or precision automation components preferred
Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills
Fluent in spoken and written English Desired Skills Experience machining injection mold components (cores, cavities, inserts, slides, lifters)
Experience producing precision automation or mechatronic components
Knowledge of common mold materials (P20, H13, S7, stainless, beryllium copper, hardened steels)
Experience with palletized workholding systems such as Erowa or 3R
SolidWorks, Creo, or NX CAD experience Schedule / Working Conditions Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Overtime as needed; some flexibility available
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
Regular exposure to standard toolroom conditions; PPE required This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC professional who values precision, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $69,702.00 - $95,841.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
