Position Summary:
The Paint Technician is responsible for supporting production paint operations through surface preparation, paint application, finish quality verification, and troubleshooting of paint-related issues. This role also provides light facilities and production support to help maintain operational uptime, safe working conditions, and efficient production flow. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in industrial, automotive, RV, or manufacturing paint environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Paint Preparation & Application Perform surface preparation including sanding, masking, cleaning, sealing, and priming. Apply paint, coatings, and sealants using approved processes and equipment. Mix paint materials according to specifications and manufacturer guidelines. Ensure proper coverage, finish consistency, and cosmetic appearance standards are met. Support paint booth setup, operation, and cleanup activities. Quality & Inspection Inspect painted surfaces for defects such as runs, fisheyes, orange peel, contamination, scratches, or inconsistencies. Perform touch-up and rework activities as needed. Verify completed work meets cosmetic and quality requirements prior to release. Maintain high attention to detail and workmanship standards. Troubleshooting & Process Support Troubleshoot paint and finish-related issues on the production floor. Identify root causes of recurring paint defects and escalate concerns appropriately. Support continuous improvement efforts related to paint quality, material usage, and process flow. Work closely with production and engineering teams to improve paint operations and efficiency. Facilities & Production Support Support basic facility maintenance activities including lighting, compressed air, ventilation, and workstation upkeep. Assist with maintaining paint booths, ventilation systems, hoses, and related production infrastructure. Respond to minor line-side/building maintenance requests. Support equipment moves, workstation setup, and production area organization as needed. Help maintain cleanliness and organization of paint and production support areas. Equipment & Material Management Maintain spray guns, paint equipment, hoses, booths, and related tooling. Ensure paint materials, supplies, and PPE are stocked and organized. Follow proper hazardous material handling and disposal procedures. Assist with inventory tracking of paint-related consumables. Safety & Compliance Follow all PPE, EHS, OSHA, and hazardous material handling requirements. Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with 5S standards. Ensure compliance with all safety procedures related to paint operations and chemical handling. Qualifications 2-5+ years of experience in industrial, automotive, RV, aerospace, or manufacturing paint environments. Knowledge of paint preparation, spray application techniques, and finishing processes. Experience using paint equipment such as HVLP spray guns and sanding/polishing tools. Ability to identify and correct paint defects and cosmetic issues. Basic facilities or maintenance support experience preferred. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced production environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in high-volume manufacturing or production environments. Familiarity with paint booths, ventilation systems, or compressed air systems. OSHA, respirator, or hazardous material handling training/certifications. Experience with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement processes. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, lift, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift. Ability to wear required PPE including respirators and protective clothing. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed. Success in this Role A successful Paint Technician consistently delivers high-quality cosmetic finishes, supports production uptime, maintains safe and organized work areas, and contributes to a reliable and efficient manufacturing environment. $30—$35 USD
