Job Description

Description:
We are seeking an experienced Bottom Painter. This position involves the application of specialized coatings to the underwater surfaces of ships and boats, preventing corrosion and marine growth while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
These shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following: Clean and prepare hull surfaces by removing old paint, rust, and contaminants through pressure washing, scraping, sanding, sandblasting, or other surface preparation methods as required Inspect surfaces for damage and report findings. Mix and apply antifouling paints and other protective coatings according to specifications. Utilize brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to ensure even coverage. Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent accidents. Inspect finished work for quality and adherence to specifications. Adjust as necessary to ensure a high-quality finish. Maintain records of materials used, work completed, and any issues encountered. Report to supervisors about project progress and any concerns. Work closely with other shipyard personnel, including welders and engineers, to coordinate tasks and ensure timely completion of projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in various painting techniques and familiarity with different types of marine coatings. Strong focus on quality and precision to ensure durability and effectiveness of coatings. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including working at heights and in confined spaces. Ability to troubleshoot issues related to surface preparation and coating application.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in marine painting or industrial coating applications. Experience in shipyard environments is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in marine coatings is a plus. Relevant safety certifications (e.g., OSHA) and knowledge of hazardous materials handling is a plus.
