Full Job Description Description:
Basic Purpose and Function:
This skilled manufacturing position is responsible for providing maritime surface preparation and coatings for repairs to ships and boats in the U.S. Navy, U.S Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial vessels. They must be able to complete and execute the assigned work tasks following regulatory specifications assigned to the vessel. Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties): Must be able to manage small teams within your discipline. Applies paint by brush, roller or spray to a uniform finish and film thickness. Observes and records environmental readings. Uses hand and power tools to prepare welds, burn backs, corrosion etc. for paint. Sets up, adjusts, abrasive blast equipment, conventional, and airless paint spray equipment. Sets up a tank or space with proper lighting and cross ventilation. Possesses the ability and experience to certify and to operate an aerial lift. Will be required to be crossed trained as a Competent Person and fire watch. Must understand and follow manufacturers SDS and Product Data Sheet (PDS) Must understand and follow Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) procedures. Must understand and follow Work Authorization (WAF) process. Must understand and follow all Hot Work procedures. Other duties may be assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position will require accessing the ship with the capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Applicant must be able to:
Accomplish a specified surface preparation with hand and/or power tools Apply coatings in accordance with the manufacturer's specification by brush and roll. Build hazardous environment containments and install negative ventilation. Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials. Work at heights and in confined spaces. Work in inclement weather conditions. Work non-standard work hours, as required.
Education and Experience:
Two (2+) years of marine paint experience preferred. Must possess basic math skills. SSPC certifications and training C-7 and/or C-12. Must be a U.S. citizen. Should have a working knowledge of the Naval Sea Systems (NAVSEA) Standard Items, specifically 009-32. Working knowledge of local NAVSEA Standard Items, specifically Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC).
