Job Description

Position Summary The Body Shop Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing semi-trucks to high-quality standards. This role requires attention to detail, knowledge of paint systems, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation & Repair
  • Inspect vehicles and components to determine extent of prep work required.
  • Perform sanding, grinding, and feather-edging to remove old paint, rust, or imperfections.
  • Clean and degrease surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
  • Mask non-paint areas to protect trim, glass, and components.
  • Apply primers, sealers, and undercoats according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform minor bodywork or filler applications when necessary to achieve smooth surfaces. Paint Mixing & Application
  • Mix paints, catalysts, reducers, and additives accurately according to formula specifications.
  • Match colors using manufacturer formulas, tinting systems, or custom adjustments.
  • Apply base coats, clear coats, and specialty coatings using spray guns and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain paint booths, ensuring proper ventilation and curing conditions.
  • Monitor environmental factors (temperature, humidity) to ensure optimal application results. Finishing & Quality Control
  • Inspect painted surfaces for defects such as runs, orange peel, overspray, or uneven coverage.
  • Perform buffing, polishing, and finishing work to achieve a high-gloss, professional finish.
  • Complete touch-ups and corrections as needed.
  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Maintain consistency in finish across large surfaces typical of semi trucks and trailers. Equipment & Shop Maintenance
  • Clean and maintain spray guns, hoses, mixing equipment, and paint booths.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of paints, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
  • Monitor inventory levels of paint supplies and report shortages.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety and environmental standards. Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in auto body or painting preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive, heavy truck, industrial, or fleet painting.
  • Experience with semi trucks, trailers, or large commercial vehicles strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of paint systems (urethane, enamel, waterborne, etc.).
  • Proficiency with spray equipment, sanding tools, and preparation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of color matching and blending techniques.
  • Familiarity with paint booth operations and maintenance. Skills & Competencies
  • Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Problem-solving skills for addressing paint defects or finish issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in environments with noise, fumes, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to wear respirators and other PPE for extended periods. Working Conditions
  • Busy, production-driven body shop environment specializing in large vehicles.
  • Exposure to chemicals, paints, solvents, and mechanical equipment.
  • Strict adherence to safety, cleanliness, and efficiency standards required.
Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
