  • Job Description
  • This role supports the production of high-quality doors and trim by performing sanding, painting, and staining tasks in a small woodworking shop. You will handle heavy materials, operate production equipment, and help ensure that all finished products meet quality standards.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Assist with the full production process of sanding, painting, and staining doors and trim.
+ Perform heavy lifting, including loading and unloading doors and trim onto belt sanders.+ Hang doors on racks for transport, handling doors that typically weigh between 50 and 120 pounds depending on the job.+ Learn to set up and operate belt sanders, paint sprayers, and related production equipment.+ Use hand tools and woodworking tools safely and effectively during production tasks.+ Measure materials accurately using a tape measure to support precise production work.+ Operate machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient manner in a production environment.+ Assist with general labor and general production duties as needed to keep workflow moving.+ Report any quality defects or irregularities in materials, finishes, or workmanship to the appropriate personnel.+ Maintain a clean and organized work area, managing dust and debris as needed.+ Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, especially when working with paint, stain, and woodworking equipment.
  • Essential Skills
  • + At least 6 months of production work experience in a manufacturing, woodworking, or painting setting.
+ At least 6 months of experience in labor-intensive roles or positions involving regular heavy lifting.+ Ability to safely lift and move doors and materials weighing between 50 and 120 pounds.+ Experience performing general labor and general production tasks in a shop or manufacturing environment.+ Ability to use hand tools confidently and safely in a woodworking or production setting.+ Basic machine operation experience in a production or manufacturing environment.+ Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for production measurements.+ Willingness to learn and operate belt sanders, paint sprayers, and other production equipment.+ Reliability to work early morning shifts and complete assigned production tasks on time.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Previous painting experience, including spraying or brushing finishes on wood surfaces.
+ Previous sanding or staining experience in a woodworking or similar environment.+ Background in woodworking or carpentry-related tasks.+ Experience operating a forklift in a production or warehouse environment.+ Comfort working in an environment with paint and stain odors and some dust.+ Strong attention to detail when inspecting surfaces and finishes for quality.+ Ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit crew.

  • Work Environment
  • The role is based in a small woodworking shop that is generally clean but can be dusty at times and has a strong paint and stain smell due to ongoing finishing work.
The crew is small, with around ten people, and maintains a friendly midwestern culture where the owner works on the floor with the team. Typical hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with optional half days until lunch on Fridays when there is sufficient work, and some days may start as early as 5:00 a.m. Dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans or work pants, and a t-shirt or sweatshirt, suitable for hands-on production and material handling in a shop environment.
