Shop Helper- Job Description
- The Shop Helper supports daily production by preparing and painting custom assemblies, assisting with material handling, and performing basic fabrication tasks in a climate-controlled warehouse environment. This role works closely with technicians to ensure high-quality workmanship, accurate assembly, and adherence to production schedules while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop.
- Responsibilities
- + Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, blasting, and performing all necessary prep work to ensure proper coating adhesion.
+ Paint custom assemblies using airless, HVLP, and conventional spray equipment in an industrial paint booth. + Work with a variety of industrial coatings, including industrial enamel, two-part epoxies, and polyurethane paints, following specified procedures. + Assist with material check-in by receiving components and verifying parts against bills of materials for accuracy and completeness. + Clean and prepare hydraulic reservoirs for testing and painting, ensuring they meet cleanliness and quality standards. + Support fabrication activities such as cutting, deburring, and beveling materials under supervision. + Operate basic shop machinery, including band saws, drill presses, ironworkers, and pipe threading tools, in a safe and controlled manner. + Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and assembly drawings to support accurate assembly and finishing work. + Use hand tools, spray guns, paint sprayers, and other shop equipment to complete assigned tasks efficiently. + Perform power washing and other cleaning tasks to prepare parts and assemblies for coating. + Maintain shop cleanliness by organizing work areas, disposing of waste properly, and supporting preventive maintenance activities. + Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working with paints, coatings, tools, and machinery. + Collaborate with technicians and other team members to meet production schedules and deliver high-quality finished products. + Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers to clarify instructions, report issues, and support continuous improvement.
- Essential Skills
- + Ability to accurately read a tape measure within 1/16 of an inch.
+ Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn fabrication techniques. + Ability to operate shop equipment such as band saws, drill presses, ironworkers, and pipe threading tools under supervision. + Experience or strong interest in industrial painting using spray guns, paint booths, and paint sprayers. + Knowledge of paint prep processes, including cleaning, sanding, blasting, and surface preparation. + Ability to work with industrial paints and coatings, including industrial enamel, two-part epoxies, and polyurethane. + Strong attention to detail to ensure quality finishes and accurate assembly support. + Commitment to safety and the ability to follow safety procedures in an industrial environment. + Effective communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude. + Ability to use hand tools and basic shop tools confidently and safely. + High school diploma or GED.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + Experience with industrial painting, including spray painting and industrial paint application.
+ Familiarity with paint prep, coating, powder coat processes, and industrial cleaning techniques such as power washing. + Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and assembly drawings. + Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. + Strong organizational skills to support material check-in and verification against bills of materials. + Interest in developing skills in fabrication, machining, and industrial finishing. + Reliability and willingness to take direction and learn new tasks.

- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
