Job Description
JPosition Summary Maverick Contracting is seeking a skilled Industrial Painter with hands-on experience in steel surface preparation and industrial coating systems . This role is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing steel components and structures in accordance with project specifications and safety standards. In addition to primary painting responsibilities, the employee will serve as a backup Shop Laborer, supporting general shop operations, material handling, equipment maintenance, and project readiness as needed to meet operational demands. Key ResponsibilitiesIndustrial Painting Duties Perform surface preparation of steel including grinding, sanding, blasting, cleaning, and degreasing in accordance with
SSPC/NACE
standards as applicable Mix, match, and apply industrial coatings (epoxy, urethane, primers, sealants, etc.) using spray systems, rollers, or brushes Inspect surfaces and coatings to ensure proper adhesion, thickness, and finish quality Operate and maintain spray equipment (airless, conventional, and plural component systems) Follow project specifications, product data sheets, and technical requirements for coatings Ensure proper curing times, environmental conditions, and coating application standards are met Maintain clean and organized painting work areas Shop Laborer (Backup/Support) Duties Assist with loading/unloading materials, tools, and equipment Support fabrication, prep, and staging activities for field jobs Perform general shop duties including cleaning, organizing, and inventory handling Assist with basic mechanical tasks or equipment setup as directed Support other trades and crews as operational needs require Comply with all OSHA safety regulations , company safety policies, and hazard communication requirements Properly use PPE including respirators, eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing as required Participate in safety meetings, training, and job hazard analyses (JHAs) Identify and report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately Follow all environmental and waste handling procedures for coatings and solvents (EPA/RCRA compliance where applicable) QualificationsRequired 2+ years of industrial painting experience , specifically with steel preparation and coatings Knowledge of surface prep methods and coating application techniques Ability to operate spray painting equipment and related tools Strong understanding of job site and shop safety practices Ability to perform physically demanding work (lifting 50+ lbs, standing, climbing, bending) Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation and ability to report to shop or job sites as required Preferred Experience with abrasive blasting or certification (SSPC/NACE preferred but not required) Experience in industrial, environmental, or oil & gas sectors Forklift or equipment operation experience Basic mechanical aptitude Work Environment Work performed in shop, industrial, and field environments Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, coatings, and varying weather conditions Must be able to work overtime, weekends, as needed Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50+ lbs Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work in confined or elevated spaces Ability to wear a respirator and other required PPE for extended periods Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Maverick Contracting is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
