Cleaning Technician Job Description The Cleaning Technician prepares and maintains surfaces aboard naval ships by sandblasting and applying thermal spray coatings in an industrial shipyard environment. This role follows strict safety and quality procedures, completes required documentation, and contributes to a high-performing team by supporting, training, and mentoring coworkers as needed. Responsibilities Sandblast surfaces and apply thermal spray coatings on board naval ships in accordance with established procedures and specifications. Represent the company in a professional and positive manner in all interactions on site. Complete and maintain all records, logs, and documents required to support work area operations and quality standards. Learn and follow all company and work area safety procedures and practices, maintaining responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others in the assigned work area. Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment, including a full-face respirator, coveralls, steel-toe boots, work gloves, and hardhat. Learn and follow all company quality system standards to ensure the finished product meets customer specifications, including understanding and applying the company quality policy and work area quality systems. Train new or less experienced employees in work area procedures and practices based on personal experience and proficiency. Monitor the performance of less experienced employees for compliance with safety programs, work station procedures, and company quality systems; provide guidance, coaching, mentoring, and corrective feedback as needed. Advise the appropriate supervisor or manager of any performance or compliance issues observed in the work area. Maintain a self-improvement program by attending company-provided training and completing coursework to develop individual skills, knowledge, and performance. Perform cleaning, painting, coating application, and related labor tasks as required to support ship repair and maintenance activities. Work in confined spaces, at heights, and on scaffolding as needed to access work areas on naval ships. Essential Skills Experience in an industrial environment such as petrochemical, power plant, commercial construction, concrete work, sandblasting, hydro-blasting, coating application, painting, or manufacturing is preferred. Experience working in ship repair is preferred. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively as a member of a work team and to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks. Ability to wear a full-face respirator and other personal protective equipment, including coveralls, work gloves, hardhat, and steel-toe boots, for extended periods. Ability to work safely in confined spaces and at heights, including climbing and working on scaffolding. Strong commitment to following safety procedures and quality standards. Ability to accurately complete required documentation and maintain organized records. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in shipyard, marine, or industrial labor environments. Experience in cleaning, painting, or coating application in heavy industrial settings. Willingness to learn thermal spray coating processes and quality system requirements. The position requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including a full-face respirator, coveralls, steel-toe boots, work gloves, and hardhat. Work conditions may involve noise, dust, and varying temperatures, and require adherence to strict safety and quality procedures at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
