Job Overview :
The Industrial Manufacturing Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing manufactured parts, equipment, and assemblies according to customer specifications, quality standards, and production schedules. This position requires the safe operation of painting equipment, proper surface preparation techniques, and attention to detail to ensure high-quality finishes on metal and fabricated products.
Responsibilities and Duties :
Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, grinding, masking, and applying primers as required. Mix paints, coatings, and thinners according to manufacturer specifications and work instructions. Apply industrial coatings using spray guns, airless spray equipment, brushes, rollers, or other approved methods. Inspect painted surfaces for defects, coverage, color consistency, and finish quality. Perform touch-up and rework activities as needed to meet quality standards. Maintain paint booths, spray equipment, and related tools in a clean and operational condition. Follow production schedules to ensure on-time completion of work orders. Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, paint specifications, and customer requirements. Monitor coating thickness and finish quality using appropriate measuring tools and inspection equipment. Adhere to all safety procedures regarding hazardous materials, personal protective equipment (PPE), and environmental regulations. Maintain accurate production and quality records. Assist with material handling and movement of parts within the production area. Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of industrial painting experience preferred.
- Experience painting fabricated steel, machinery, equipment, or manufactured products is highly desirable.
- Experience operating conventional and airless spray systems preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of industrial coatings, primers, and paint application techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Ability to use measuring devices and inspection equipment.
- Basic math skills for mixing paints and calculating material usage.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety. Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear respirators and other required PPE.
- Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to paint fumes, dust, noise, and varying temperatures. Working Conditions
- Manufacturing and production environment.
- Regular use of respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.
- Exposure to paints, solvents, and industrial coatings while following established safety procedures. Preferred Certifications
- Forklift certification.
- Respirator fit testing certification.
- OSHA safety training or equivalent.
