Industrial Painter Job Description This role focuses on painting lift equipment using electrostatic spray guns in an industrial setting. You will prepare surfaces, mix and apply paint, perform touch-ups, and ensure high-quality finishes that meet production and safety standards. The position also involves maintaining painting equipment and supporting overall paint shop operations. Responsibilities Paint lift equipment using electrostatic spray guns in accordance with established procedures and specifications. Mix paint and related materials to achieve the correct color, viscosity, and consistency for each job. Prepare equipment and parts for painting by sanding, washing, conditioning, and performing light bodywork as needed. Apply primer, paint, and touch-up coatings using spray equipment and brushes to achieve a consistent and durable finish. Perform detailed touch-ups after spray application using brushes to correct imperfections and ensure a high-quality appearance. Mask and unmask parts to meet specifications and protect areas that should not be painted. Disassemble, clean, and maintain painting equipment, including pumps, heaters, tanks, and spray guns, to ensure reliable operation. Flush paint tanks and lines during color changes to prevent contamination and maintain color accuracy. Test paints for color accuracy, viscosity, and consistency, and make adjustments as needed. Perform titrations and adjust chemicals as required to support paint and related processes. Apply decals, stencils, and rust-proofing materials as specified for each product. Inspect work before, during, and after painting to ensure it meets quality standards, including checking film thickness (mils) and gloss levels. Transport parts and materials using tuggers, forklifts, overhead cranes, or manual carts in a safe and efficient manner. Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of respirators and other personal protective equipment. Support production needs by working overtime and weekend shifts when required. Essential Skills At least 3 years of industrial painting experience. Hands-on experience with spray guns, including electrostatic spray equipment. Proficiency in paint preparation, including sanding, washing, conditioning, and basic bodywork. Experience performing detailed touch-ups using brushes after spray application. Ability to work in a paint booth and open-air shop environment with industrial paint processes. Capability to wear a respirator and successfully pass a Pulmonary Function Test. Experience with industrial painting tasks such as sandblasting, prepping, paint mixing, and paint application. Familiarity with maintaining and cleaning painting equipment, including pumps, heaters, tanks, and spray guns. Ability to inspect painted surfaces and verify quality, including mil and gloss checks. Comfort operating material handling equipment such as tuggers, forklifts, overhead cranes, and manual carts. Willingness and availability to work overtime and weekend shifts based on production demands. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with blasting processes in an industrial environment. Experience mixing paint batches to specific formulas or production requirements. Experience in paint manufacturing or similar industrial paint operations. Knowledge of applying decals, stencils, and rust-proofing materials. Attention to detail and strong commitment to quality and consistency in finishes. Ability to perform basic chemical checks, such as titrations, and adjust chemicals for paint processes. Strong safety awareness and adherence to industrial safety practices. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in an open-air shop that includes industrial paint booths and material handling equipment such as tuggers, forklifts, and overhead cranes. The regular schedule runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with overtime often available and sometimes required. Overtime may extend the workday to 4:30 p.m., and mandatory Saturday and/or Sunday shifts may be scheduled depending on production needs, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You will work around industrial paints, spray equipment, and related chemicals, and you will use a respirator and other personal protective equipment as part of standard safety practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.65/hr.
