Job Description

An Industrial Painter applies protective and decorative coatings to different surfaces on large-scale infrastructure, machinery, or manufactured goods. Core duties involve intense surface preparation (sandblasting, cleaning), using spray equipment, following, and maintaining strict OSHA safety standards.

Experience:
Proven experience in commercial or industrial painting, specifically with various coating types (epoxies, urethanes, multi-component systems). Demonstrated ability to prepare surfaces thoroughly (e.g., abrasive blasting, power washing, chemical cleaning, patching, caulking) to ensure optimal adhesion and longevity of coatings. Familiarity with different application methods, including airless sprayers, conventional spray, brush, and roller techniques. Experience with reading and interpreting technical data sheets (TDS) and safety data sheets (SDS) for various coating products. A strong portfolio or references showcasing previous commercial coating projects is a significant plus. Ability to look up, read and understand project specifications.
Technical Skills:
Coating Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of different commercial coating systems, their properties, application requirements, and curing processes. This includes anti-corrosion coatings, protective coatings, and specialized systems.
Surface Preparation Expertise:
Proficient in various surface preparation techniques, understanding the importance of achieving proper surface profiles and cleanliness standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE standards).
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Skilled in operating and maintaining a range of painting equipment, including spray pumps, compressors, blast pots, and safety gear.
Quality Control:
Ability to perform quality checks, identify defects, and ensure coatings meet specified thickness (DFT), adhesion, and appearance standards.
Certifications & Training:
NACE Level 1 Certification (Desirable): While not strictly mandatory, this certification demonstrates a foundational understanding of corrosion mechanisms, protective coatings, and quality control. It signifies a commitment to industry best practices. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30: Essential for workplace safety knowledge and compliance. Confined Space Entry (if applicable): If the role involves working in confined spaces, this certification is crucial. Scaffold User/Erector Training (if applicable): For roles requiring work at heights.
Manufacturer-Specific Training:
Certifications from specific coating manufacturers can be highly valuable for specialized applications. Leadership & Soft Skills (Must-Haves):

Ability to guide and instruct sub contracted painting crews if needed and inspect their quality of work. Ability to seek out quotes and follow up to make sure projects stay on track. Capable of taking initiative and responsibility for project segments. Strong communication skills to coordinate with project managers, clients, and fellow team members. Problem-solving aptitude to address on-site challenges efficiently.
Self-Starter:
Proactive in identifying tasks, organizing work, and initiating action without constant supervision. Takes ownership of their responsibilities.

Pay:
$21.00 - $27.00 per hour
