Job Description:
Anticipated Assignment Schedule:
Ten-hour days beginning at 6:30 AM Monday - Thursday. Overtime is possible and can be required. We are seeking an entry-level Protection & Control Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing of protection and control systems used in electrical power substations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an electrical or industrial maintenance background who is looking to build a career in the utility industry.
Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair protection and control relaying systems and associated equipment. Install, program, and maintain protective relays and control devices. Perform calibration and testing of protection and control relays. Assist with creating and maintaining protection and control documentation. Support project leads with field assignments and day-to-day activities. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Maintain awareness of current industry standards, technologies, and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred. 0-3 years of experience in a Controls Technician, Electrical Technician, or similar role. Basic understanding of AC and DC electrical systems and troubleshooting. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints. Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with electrical equipment and the utility or industrial electrical environment is a plus. Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned APC office. High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred. 0-3 years of experience as a controls technician or similar role. Familiar with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics. Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs. Experience with AC and DC systems. The successful candidate must live within a reasonable commute to the assigned APC office location.
Work Environment:
Position supports Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities in electrical substations.
NERC/CIP
access is required. PPE is required while working in substation environments. The employer will provide a hard hat and approved safety glasses. Candidate must provide EH-rated safety boots and wear 100% cotton clothing while in substations.
