We are seeking a skilled Controls Technician to install, configure, program, and commission building automation and HVAC control systems for commercial facilities. The ideal candidate will ensure systems operate reliably and efficiently by performing sequencing, troubleshooting, and mechanical coordination on-site. This role supports project delivery from installation through commissioning and ongoing maintenance, working closely with engineers, contractors, and customers to meet performance and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Install and wire control panels, sensors, actuators, and field devices for HVAC and building automation systems at commercial sites.
Configure and program controllers, field devices, and supervisory systems using industry protocols (BACnet, Modbus, Niagara, Tridium, or similar).
Develop, verify, and implement control sequences to meet design intent and energy efficiency goals.
Commission and test systems, perform functional performance testing, document results, and resolve deficiencies.
Troubleshoot and repair control systems, mechanical interfaces, and HVAC equipment in the field to minimize downtime.
Perform site inspections, verify mechanical and electrical connections, and coordinate with electricians, HVAC technicians, and project managers.
Provide preventive maintenance, firmware updates, and system optimization to improve reliability and efficiency.
Maintain accurate project documentation, wiring diagrams, test reports, and as-built drawings.
Communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders, providing training and clear handover documentation.
Adhere to safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards on all job sites. Qualifications Associate degree or technical diploma in HVAC, electrical, controls, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
3+ years of field experience installing, configuring, and commissioning HVAC controls or building automation systems in commercial settings.
Proven skills in control programming and sequencing for HVAC applications (BACnet, Modbus, Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent).
Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with HVAC equipment, valves, sensors, and actuators.
Experience with system configuration, commissioning tools, and troubleshooting instrumentation and communication issues.
Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control wiring diagrams.
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to customer sites; ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as required.
Good written and verbal communication skills; customer-focused with the ability to train end users.
Preferred certifications: HVAC technician certification, manufacturer-specific controls certifications, or building automation-related credentials.
Flexible, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
