Job Description

Overview Set up, instrument, and conduct performance testing to develop knowledge to continue Hussmann's leadership position in refrigeration systems, Merchandisers, and associated products and systems. Provide feedback to Engineering on design performance and suggest improvements based upon data. Conduct data analysis and prepare reports to document key knowledge learning. Build and change product configuration to support test setup and operations. Responsibilities Perform testing requiring conventional types of procedures and/or applicable industry standards. Focus on controls, instrumentation, calibration, and the electrical system. Configure sensors, transducers, data acquisition systems, PLCs, and control devices for refrigeration performance and reliability testing. Verify proper operation of instrumentation before test execution. Set up Hussmann Refrigeration Rack Systems and Krack DUT for testing. This includes the installation of all refrigeration, electrical, and data acquisition instrumentation connections and control systems. Conduct testing as directed by the Evaluation Engineer, Manager of Lab Testing or other Engineering personnel responsible for the project. Support engineers and lab technicians in executing refrigeration performance, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance tests. Monitor test conditions as defined in the test request, document observations, and verify that test procedures are followed accurately. Collect and process the test data and maintain the test data Log Sheets. Work within the R D Lab team and assist other technicians as needed. Must work well with others and transfer learning to the group effectively. Support engineers in executing refrigeration performance, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance tests. Monitor test conditions, document observations, and verify that test procedures are followed accurately. Manage and maintain data acquisition sensors, tools, and support UL audit traceability. Conduct routine calibration checks and preventive maintenance on sensors, instrumentation, control panels, and test equipment. Maintain calibration records and ensure equipment remains compliant with laboratory quality requirements. Follow Hussmann's established electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and laboratory procedures. Participate in 5S activities and recommend improvements to test equipment reliability, automation, and operational efficiency. Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and skills necessary to learn the Hussmann data acquisition system (Lab View and PLC ladder logic) and supporting programs for evaluation of data processing. Qualifications Technical Certificate in HVAC required. Technical Associate's Degree preferred Minimum of 1 year experience (new graduates welcome). Skills in the use and operation of tools of the HVAC and refrigeration trade (brazing, electrical , etc.). Basic knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, sensors, instrumentation, and electrical troubleshooting. Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Will frequently work on projects or assignments in a team or group environment. Responsible for developing good listening and communication skills. Prepares and presents reports as requested.
