Now Hiring:
Controls Technician Job Description This hands-on position requires a skilled technician to troubleshoot PLCs (including Allen-Bradley, Wonderware, and some Siemens), maintain and repair instrumentation, support daily plant operations, and assist with new automation installations in a highly automated facility. The technician will split their time between project-based automation work and responding to equipment issues, spending about 75% of their time on the production floor and 25% in the office. Responsibilities Troubleshoot mechanical issues and fabricate repair parts as needed. Complete preventive and predictive maintenance activities according to work orders, technical manuals, and management direction. Partner closely with maintenance leadership to improve maintenance programs and practices. Support plant operations by repairing and maintaining all production equipment and company assets at the Dubuque, Iowa facility. Ensure reliable and safe operation of manufacturing equipment in a food production environment. Essential Skills 2+ years of instrumentation experience. 2+ years of PLC troubleshooting experience in an industrial environment. Two-year technical degree in Electrical or Mechanical fields. Mechanical aptitude and prior work in a food manufacturing environment. Live within 45 minutes of Dubuque for on-call rotation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Mechanically inclined. Previous experience in a food environment (e.g., USDA, Tyson, Kraft, Hormel). Work Environment The work environment is a mix of on-floor and office tasks, with a 25%/75% split between office and floor work. The role involves working second or third shifts, with shift assignments based on seniority. An on-call schedule is provided a year in advance and is divided among the 12-member team. Work involves a blend of projects for new automation installations and servicing equipment when it goes down. The facility is highly automated, capable of running with only five people. The team consists of 12 maintenance members and four in maintenance leadership. The position reports directly to the automation lead. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Dubuque, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
