Job Title:
Controls Technician Job Description Join a leading manufacturer of high-quality aluminum products as a Controls Technician on the 1st shift. In this role, you install, maintain, and troubleshoot control systems and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production machinery. You work with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and computer-based systems, applying your expertise in PLC-controlled equipment and industrial maintenance to keep the facility running at peak performance. Responsibilities Troubleshoot malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and computer systems to identify root causes and implement effective repairs. Perform advanced electronic troubleshooting on 24VDC circuits through 480VAC systems, including repair and installation of controls, systems, and electric motors. Install new control systems and components or upgrade existing controls to improve performance, reliability, and safety. Monitor and adjust equipment settings to ensure proper operation of machinery and production processes. Inspect equipment proactively to diagnose issues and determine necessary repairs before failures occur. Analyze data from sensors and control systems to verify proper equipment functioning and identify performance issues. Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members about equipment issues, repair status, and any required follow-up actions. Complete all maintenance and repair tasks accurately, safely, and within expected timeframes while following company policies, procedures, and safety standards. Essential Skills At least 5 years of experience troubleshooting and working with PLC controls. 7-10 years of experience performing industrial maintenance in a manufacturing or similar environment. Strong experience with hydraulic and pneumatic system repair. Hands-on experience working with machine circuitry, including wiring and rewiring machine controls. Experience repairing and replacing servo motors and servo drives. Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining control systems, including PLC-controlled equipment. Ability to perform electrical maintenance on circuits ranging from 24VDC up through 480VAC. Experience working with Allen-Bradley PLCs. Experience working with Siemens PLCs. Ability to perform machine calibration and ensure accurate and reliable machine operation. Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills applied to complex control and automation issues. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to established procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications PLC programming experience is highly desirable. Experience in roles such as PLC Technician, Controls Technician, or PLC Maintenance Technician. Familiarity with control systems integration and optimization in a production environment. Ability to collaborate effectively with production, maintenance, and engineering teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and reporting equipment status. Detail-oriented approach to maintenance, troubleshooting, and record keeping. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a climate-controlled, clean manufacturing facility producing aluminum products such as foil containers, roll foil, and plastic dome lids. You work on the 1st shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with an average of 5-10 hours of overtime, especially during the busy season starting in June when hours may fluctuate. The environment can be loud near press machines, and employees are required to wear hearing protection such as earmuffs in those areas. You work around advanced production and control equipment, including PLC-controlled systems, hydraulic and pneumatic machinery, servo-driven equipment, and high- and low-voltage electrical systems, within a safety-conscious and well-maintained facility. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Wheeling, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $79040.00 - $83200.00/yr.Comprehensive Benefits:
