Job Description
Instrument and Controls Technician
Provide technical support for upgrades and maintenance involving power generation, electric and gas transmission, substation and distribution.
Design, install, and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems:
Power plantsSubstationsDistribution equipmentProtectionOther company departmentsInstallation coordination and organizationWrite specifications and procurement documents for electrical equipment.
Develop software programs for PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems.
Provide technical analysis such as fault current, voltage drop, load flow, arc flash, economic studies, planning studies and forecasting.
Assist in mapping the electric distribution system as needed.
Prepare and review one-line diagrams, digital and analog I/O lists, topology diagrams, connection drawings, interconnection drawings and schematic drawings.
Available as needed to provide technical support during electrical outages and weather emergencies.
Design, install and maintain automation systems that provide:
Increased reliabilityIncreased operator information and controlIncreased reporting functionsReduced customer service interruptionsEnhance the Electric Department"s service and productivity by providing support to other employees and filling in and completing other duties as requested by the Superintendent of Electric Maintenance.
Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.

Job Requirements
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Thorough knowledge of electricity, and Microsoft Office products
- Must possess good communication skills to effectively work with internal and external departmental customers
- Must have a thorough knowledge of logic functions, computer programing, such as C++, communication protocols, such as Modbus, and various software platforms like Modicon for PLCs
- Must know how to use electrical tools such as digital multimeters, power supplies, and frequency generators
- Must be able to install, troubleshoot, and repair single phase & three phase electrical motors, motor control circuits, lighting circuits, and other associated electrical equipment
- Must be able to read electrical schematics, prints, three phase diagrams, wiring diagrams, and one line diagrams
- Must be available as needed to provide technical support during electrical outages, generator startups, and weather related emergencies
- Must know all electrical equipment rated 72.5KV and below
- Must know NESC, NETA, and NFPA codes and standards
- Must always wear proper PPE
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must maintain regular, and reliable attendance
- Must be part of an on call rotation.
