Controls Technician Job Description The Controls Technician works at a maintenance level and focuses on commissioning and troubleshooting control systems used in industrial automation. This role ensures that electrical and mechanical control equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. Responsibilities Commission industrial control systems and verify proper operation of all components. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues within control systems to identify root causes and implement effective repairs. Read and interpret electrical schematics to diagnose faults and support system commissioning. Work with various PLC platforms to assist in diagnosing control logic and system performance issues. Inspect and maintain electric motors and drives to ensure safe and efficient operation. Handle and work safely with high voltage 3-phase power while performing maintenance and troubleshooting tasks. Collaborate with other maintenance and operations personnel to minimize downtime and improve system reliability. Document work performed, including findings, repairs, and system adjustments, to support ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement. Essential Skills Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in electrical and mechanical systems. Familiarity with various PLC platforms used in industrial automation. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics accurately. Solid understanding of electric motors and drives and their operation. Comfort and competence working with high voltage 3-phase power in an industrial environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Pneumatic system knowledge is a plus. Hydraulic system knowledge is a plus. Experience working in an industrial automation or manufacturing environment is beneficial. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices. Work Environment This position operates on a first shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The role is based in an industrial setting focused on automation and control systems, where you will regularly work around electrical equipment, electric motors, drives, and high voltage 3-phase power. You will collaborate closely with maintenance and operations teams in a hands-on environment that emphasizes safe work practices and consistent system reliability. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Syracuse, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
