Controls Technician - Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Full‑timePosition SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Controls Technician with strong experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS) to support installation, programming, commissioning, and maintenance activities across commercial and institutional facilities in the Austin area. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on expertise with Tridium Niagara (N4) and Siemens DDC systems and be comfortable working in the field as well as coordinating with project teams and clients.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, program, commission, and troubleshoot building automation and control systems.
Configure and maintain Tridium Niagara (N4) stations, including graphics, alarms, histories, and integrations.
Work with Siemens DDC controllers (e.g., PXC, DXR, or similar), including point-to-point checkout and system optimization.
Perform system testing, functional performance verification, and documentation.
Troubleshoot BAS network, control devices, sensors, actuators, and field wiring.
Integrate third‑party systems using BACnet, Modbus, and other standard protocols.
Read and interpret control drawings, sequences of operation, and wiring diagrams.
Support retrofits, expansions, and upgrades of existing BAS installations.
Provide field support, service calls, and preventative maintenance.
Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, electricians, and end users.
Train customers on system operation as needed.
Ensure all work complies with company standards, safety requirements, and local codes.
Required Qualifications3+ years of experience working with Building Automation / HVAC controls.
Demonstratedhands‑on experience with:
Tridium Niagara (AX and/or N4)Siemens DDC control systemsStrong understanding of HVAC systems (AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, RTUs, etc.).Experience with BAS communication protocols (BACnet IP/MSTP, Modbus, LonWorks preferred).Ability to troubleshoot electrical and controls-related issues using meters and software tools.
Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, subnets, VLANs a plus).Ability to read technical drawings, control schematics, and specifications.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally within the Austin area.
Strong communication skills and customer-facing professionalism.
Preferred QualificationsNiagara N4 Certification (Technical or Professional)Siemens controls training or certificationExperience with system graphics developmentExperience in healthcare, higher education, or large commercial facilitiesFamiliarity with energy optimization and fault detection strategiesPhysical & Work RequirementsAbility to work on construction sites and in mechanical/electrical rooms.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders or lifts as required.
Occasional after-hours or weekend work for commissioning or service needs.
