Mobile Ceramics Studio Assistant —

$21/hour ($150 per 7-hour Saturday shift)

Wednesdays at the farmers market About Studio Spoltore Studio Spoltore operates a mobile ceramics studio at the La Plata Farmers Market, where patrons of all ages can drop in to create decorative and functional objects out of clay. We are looking for a creative, dependable artist to run the booth and bring our hands-on ceramics experience to the community. Position Overview The Mobile Ceramics Studio Assistant will lead the on-site booth experience each Saturday, guiding customers through clay projects, demonstrating techniques, and producing finished ceramic pieces during slower periods. Starting in June, additional Wednesday hours will be available teaching art and clay activities at the farmers market. There is also a future opportunity to work in the owner's home studio assisting with glazing, firing, and packaging finished pieces. As a perk, the right candidate will be welcome to fire their own personal work in the kiln when space allows during scheduled firings. Responsibilities Set up, run, and break down the mobile ceramics booth each market day Teach hand-building and basic ceramics techniques to patrons of all ages, including young children and adults Demonstrate basic drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques as they relate to surface design on clay Produce ceramic pieces for the studio during slower periods at the booth Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming workspace Manage materials, tools, and patron projects so they can be transported safely for firing Engage warmly with market patrons and represent Studio Spoltore professionally Assist with glazing, firing, and packaging at the home studio (future opportunity) Requirements Hands-on experience working with ceramics and clay (hand-building techniques required; wheel-throwing a plus) Art background with basic drawing, painting, and printmaking skills Proven ability to teach both young children and adults in a hands-on setting Friendly, patient, and outgoing personality — comfortable approaching and engaging strangers Able to lift 50+ lbs (tables, clay, supply bins, tents) Willing and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, light rain) Reliable transportation to the La Plata Farmers Market Punctual, dependable, and able to commit to the full Saturday schedule Able to work independently and manage the booth solo Comfortable handling cash/card transactions and tracking projects for pickup Basic knowledge of clay safety (dust management, tool handling) around children Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching art workshops, camps, or classes Familiarity with kiln operation, glazing, and the firing process Experience selling or demonstrating art at markets, fairs, or pop-up events To Apply Please submit a resume, a brief note about your ceramics and teaching experience, and 3-5 images of your work.
