Job Description

Joshua Warner Studios is seeking a skilled and organized Scenic Charge to oversee scenic painting projects in our fabrication studio and on-site installs. This role serves as the lead point person for the paint department during active projects — coordinating paint workflow, managing materials and orders, developing samples, and leading scenic paint crews while actively participating in the work. The Scenic Charge reports to the Owner and Project Manager(s), and collaborates closely with the Shop Foreman and Studio Manager throughout each project. Responsibilities Lead scenic paint calls and oversee day-to-day paint execution Create paint samples and develop finish approaches from renderings and references Manage and delegate tasks to scenic painters and overhire crew Coordinate paint schedules and priorities with project management and fabrication teams Order paint and maintain paint inventory/supplies Ensure consistency and quality across painted elements Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient paint workspace Assist with load-ins, installs, and on-site touch-ups as needed Qualifications Professional scenic painting experience in theatre, events, themed entertainment, or fabrication environments Strong understanding of faux finishes, texture work, distressing, and scenic paint techniques Experience leading crews or managing paint calls preferred Ability to balance artistic quality with production deadlines Organized, collaborative, and solution-oriented Driver's license preferred Position Details W2 hourly position $33/hr Project-based scheduling; hours vary based on workload Typical calls are 8-hour days with paid lunch Work includes both shop and on-site installation environments About Joshua Warner Studios Joshua Warner Studios is a NYC-based scenic design and fabrication studio creating work for theatre, experiential activations, live events, and retail environments.
