We are seeking a highly creative, hands-on craftsperson who loves working with children and can design original projects using cardboard, paper, and simple mechanical systems. Are you a creative individual who loves "making things", working with children and wants a big role in a small successful creative organization? This role blends creative invention, basic engineering, CAD skills, simple electronics and youth facilitation. The ideal candidate can rapidly prototype, refine ideas through testing, and translate mechanical concepts into accessible builds for children. This is not a pre-packaged craft position. We are looking for someone who can invent and iterate projects that incorporate motion, structure, and mechanical action. Dazzling Discoveries/ Skill Mill NYC is a hands-on STEM education program in New York City. Our focus is science, engineering, technology and math (STEM). We have our own facility where we run science, engineering, crafts, electronics and 3D printing & CAD classes and camps. During the school year we run after school classes, in-school programs and events at our locations and at schools throughout Manhattan. Key Responsibilities Design and prototype original projects using cardboard, paper, and low-cost materials Incorporate mechanisms such as cams, linkages, levers, sliders, gears, and pop-ups Develop clear material lists and build sequences Refine projects based on classroom testing Lead engaging workshops for children (elementary through middle school) Break down mechanical concepts into developmentally appropriate lessons Document projects for internal curriculum use Qualifications Strong hands-on building and prototyping skills Experience designing kinetic or mechanical cardboard constructions Experience working with children Understanding of basic mechanical principles Clear communication skills Organized, patient, and adaptable Background in art education, industrial design, engineering, architecture, theater props, or maker education Send cover letter, resume and link to photos of your work.
