Job Description

Approximately 10 hours per week; maximum 499 hours per year. Under the supervision of the Manager of Art Operations and 3D Area Coordinator, the Fine Woodworking Lab Assistant supports the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of the Fine Woodworking studio for the benefit of students and faculty in the Fine Woodworking program. The Lab Assistant helps maintain a safe, organized, and productive studio environment and assists students with proper use of tools, equipment, and studio procedures. The position requires the ability to work independently, communicate effectively with students and faculty, and perform physical tasks associated with studio maintenance and operation, including lifting up to 50lbs.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Monitoring open studio/lab hours as scheduled each semester. Ensuring that participating students sign into open labs and are currently enrolled in Fine Wood classes. Assisting instructors as needed. Assuring each student understands the safe and proper use of the power tools and help student with questions regarding techniques and safety procedures. Assuring clean-up of studio space after each open studio/lab. This may require lifting and moving large and or/heavy objects, as well as the safe disposal of dusts, chemicals, wood, and trash. Monitoring and directing students in the care, proper cleaning, and maintenance of the studio and equipment. Checking that all equipment is in good operating order. Weekly inventory of both lab fee materials and consumables. Support ordering and receiving of materials in partnership with faculty and the MAO. Perform simple repairs on equipment and, if necessary, contact MOA or vendors regarding repairs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or general equivalency with proven experience with woodworking tools 1 year related experience with Fine Woodworking processes and equipment such as table saws, planers, jointers, and lathes Knowledge of safety procedures with all woodworking power tools and processes Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Excellent communication and organizational skills
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree Experience with maintenance and/or repair of woodworking machinery and tools Experience working in higher education or with students Experience working with ShopBot
HOURLY RATE
$20.2135 - $21.6284 (commensurate with experience)

Employment with the College will require successful completion of background check(s) and a pre-placement physical in accordance with College's policies.
