22-28 per hour Founded in 1999, this privately held automation and engineering firm employs approximately 30 to 50 professionals, with the majority of its workforce based at its Birmingham, Alabama headquarters and production facility. The company specializes in delivering custom automation, integration, and motion control solutions, supporting clients with engineering, design, programming, and panel building services that improve productivity, safety, and operational efficiency. The Birmingham facility serves as the central hub for engineering, panel design, controls integration, and panel assembly operations, where technicians and engineers collaborate to build and test electrical control panels, automation systems, and industrial equipment used in manufacturing and production environments.
The organization supports customers across a wide range of industrial markets, including manufacturing, packaging, logistics, robotics, and material handling, providing solutions involving PLC programming, HMI systems, robotics, machine vision, and motion control technologies. The Panel Assembly Technician will be responsible for assembling and wiring industrial control panels that support automated systems, ensuring high-quality builds that meet engineering specifications and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities Assemble industrial control panels including mounting components, wiring, and routing cables according to electrical schematics and layout drawings.
Interpret electrical prints, wiring diagrams, and bill of materials to ensure accurate and efficient panel construction.
Install and wire PLCs, HMIs, drives, relays, and other control components used in automation systems.
Perform quality checks, point-to-point testing, and troubleshooting to verify proper panel functionality prior to shipment.
Collaborate with engineering, controls, and operations teams to support project timelines, resolve build issues, and improve assembly processes. Required and Preferred Qualifications Experience in panel assembly, electrical wiring, or industrial equipment assembly in a manufacturing or automation environment.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
Familiarity with control components such as PLCs, HMIs, motor drives, sensors, and relays.
Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to producing clean, high-quality work.
Nice to have: Experience in automation, robotics, or controls integration; exposure to Allen Bradley or similar PLC systems; understanding of basic electrical troubleshooting and testing.
