MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL ASSEMBLER
Location Hornet Cutting Systems, LLC Valley Center, Kansas Department Production / Manufacturing Reports To Production Manager or other designated member of management FLSA Classification Hourly, nonexempt Position Type Full-time Schedule 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday Mandatory overtime as business needs require (some Fridays, rare Saturdays) Pay Starting at $22.00 per hour and up, depending on skill, experience, education, and certification. This is an hourly, nonexempt position. All actual hours worked over 40 in a workweek will be paid at 1.5 times the employee's regular rate of pay. Why HCS? Hornet is seeking curious, critical-thinking assemblers with both mechanical and electrical experience to build OEM industrial CNC cutting machines. This is not an assembly-line, big-box assembler role. Hornet's assemblers read technical blueprints and electrical schematics to build mechanical subassemblies, electrical subassemblies, and complete machine assemblies. This role requires critical thinking, mechanical aptitude, electrical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to be challenged. Hornet's ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, high integrity, a positive attitude, and higher-than-average mechanical and electrical aptitude. This individual can read and build from blueprints and electrical schematics, has knowledge of hand tools and their correct usage and applications, and can solder. Hornet Core Values Mission First People Always Raise the Bar Take Ownership Position Summary The Assembler is responsible for building subassemblies, electrical assemblies, and complete machine assemblies for Hornet's OEM CNC cutting machines. This role requires the ability to work from technical drawings, electrical schematics, work orders, travelers, verbal instructions, and electronic process documentation. The Assembler is expected to perform high-quality mechanical and electrical assembly work, support machine runoff and validation, troubleshoot assembly issues, prepare products for shipment, and maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment. Primary Accountabilities Safety Issuing material to jobs Clocking in and out of jobs accurately Assembling to the production schedule Product validation Preparing products for shipment Troubleshooting Drive parameter installation and tuning Plasma control commissioning Quality workmanship Accurate use of work orders, travelers, and electronic documentation Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive and complete work order travelers for machine assemblies and subassemblies. Read, interpret, and build from mechanical drawings, blueprints, electrical schematics, and related technical documentation. Build mechanical assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications. Build electrical assemblies and subassemblies using templates, jigs, fixtures, hand tools, power tools, and related equipment. Build and test interface, conductivity, and other electrical requirements for electrical assemblies and subassemblies. Pick and verify the correct materials for the work being performed. Set up and perform manual and automated assembly operations required to complete assigned work. Perform required portable machine functions needed to accomplish assembly operations. Perform functional testing and required checks during or after final assembly, as required by work instructions, documentation, or verbal direction. Troubleshoot and run off machines to verify proper operation. Perform rework, light corrective fabrication, electrical troubleshooting, and related post-assembly correction work as needed. Install and tune drive parameters as required. Support plasma control commissioning as required. Prepare completed products and assemblies for shipment. Maintain a safe and professional working environment by following company policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Maximize production efficiency while maintaining quality standards. Keep the assembly area clean, organized, and free from oil, chips, unsafe materials, and hazardous conditions. Use electronic setup and process documentation and keep required documentation up to date. Ensure product quality, workmanship, and conformance to applicable processes, requirements, and quality standards. Assist other team members as needed to support production goals. Perform all other tasks as assigned by management. Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities The ideal candidate will have, or be able to learn, the following: Soldering. Working knowledge of crimping tools and wire connectors. Understanding of basic electrical principles, including the flow of electricity. Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and build from electrical schematics. Ability to read and build from mechanical blueprints and technical drawings. Ability to use and read tools such as tape measures, squares, levels, fixturing tools, and other required hand tools and power tools. Strong mechanical aptitude. Strong electrical aptitude. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to complete assignments on time and according to specifications or other designated requirements. Ability to work efficiently, with integrity and respect, both independently and in a team environment. Desire to learn and ability to adapt to a changing work environment. Reliable attendance and communication. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to perform the following, with or without reasonable accommodation: Lift up to 75 pounds. Bend, stoop, and squat for extended periods of time. Perform operations while lying on the floor. Repetitively climb on structures in excess of 3 feet high. Stand, walk, reach, push, pull, grip, and use tools for extended periods of time. Work in an environment exposed to extreme temperatures and loud noises.
