Responsibilities:
Precision Soldering:
Perform hand soldering on through-hole and surface-mount (SMT) components using soldering irons and hot air rework stations.
Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure correct component placement.
Quality Inspection:
Visually inspect solder joints (often using microscopes) for defects like bridging, cold joints, or insufficient solder.
Rework & Repair:
De-solder and replace defective components or repair damaged PCB traces.
Tool Maintenance:
Clean, tin, and maintain soldering tips and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Safety Compliance:
Strictly follow Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols and safety guidelines regarding heat and fumes.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in manufacturing or electronics assembly, with a strong understanding of PCB soldering techniques.
- Knowledge of surface mount technology (SMT), electrical wiring, schematics, and mechanical assembly processes.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), IPC 610 standards, and electrical testing equipment such as ohmmeters.
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and schematics related to electronic assemblies.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience using hand tools, power tools, calipers, and machining equipment.
- Electrical experience, including soldering skills, troubleshooting circuits, and understanding electrical wiring principles.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow precise instructions and quality standards.
- Excellent manual dexterity combined with good eyesight for inspecting small components.
Physical Requirements:
The SMT Operator is expected to perform the following physical requirements daily for up to 8 to 10 hours:
Stationary Position:
The ability to remain in a seated or standing position for extended periods, usually at a workstation in a ISO clean room.
Manual Dexterity:
Frequent use of hands to handle, feel, or manipulate small components such as microchips, microscopes, and soldering materials while wearing PPE.
Communication:
Clear speaking and active listening abilities are essential for productivity, face to face communication, and safety.
Vision Requirements:
Close vision and ability to adjust focus are needed for inspecting small components utilizing a microscope.
Mobility:
Occasional walking, bending, or stooping to reach materials while wearing gowns, masks, hairnets, and foot covering.
Lifting:
Ability to lift, carry, or move objects, typically ranging from 10 to 25 pounds.
Environmental Factors:
Primarily indoor manufacturing environments, with moderate noise levels.
