Assembler Job Description The Assembler builds electro-mechanical products by creating sub-assemblies with printed circuit boards and components, and then integrating these into completed units using hand and power tools. This role follows detailed work instructions and procedures to perform assembly, testing, and related production tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Assemble printed circuit boards by inserting through-hole components in accordance with specific work instructions and procedures. Use various hand tools and air/power tools to perform precise electro-mechanical assembly tasks. Install sub-assemblies and miscellaneous hardware into unit enclosures at the final assembly level following detailed instructions. Perform electrical functional testing at both printed circuit board and final assembly levels using test fixtures provided by electrical engineering. Inspect assemblies for quality, accuracy, and conformance to specifications, making adjustments as needed. Support packaging and packing activities to prepare completed units for shipment as required. Work effectively on a production or assembly line to meet daily output and quality targets. Follow cleanroom or controlled-area procedures when required for specific assemblies. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, or work orders to complete assembly tasks correctly. Perform basic wiring and electrical assembly tasks as needed to complete units. Use hand and power tools safely and correctly, maintaining a clean and organized workstation. Collaborate with team members and other departments to achieve production goals and resolve issues. Strive for continuous process improvement in daily activities by identifying and suggesting opportunities to enhance efficiency and quality. Complete all assigned tasks from start to finish, ensuring deadlines and production schedules are met. Adhere to all safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with workplace policies. Lift and move materials or components weighing up to 26 pounds as part of the assembly process. Remain standing at a workstation for 8 or more hours per shift while performing assembly duties. Essential Skills Minimum 4 months of production work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Ability to perform electro-mechanical assembly using hand tools and power tools. Experience with or strong aptitude for working on sub-assemblies and final assemblies. Capability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively. Basic mechanical and electrical assembly skills, including wiring and mechanical assembly. Ability to follow detailed work instructions, procedures, and production documentation. Comfort working on an assembly line or production line in a fast-paced environment. Ability to stand at a workstation for 8+ hours and remain comfortable standing for the entire shift. Ability to lift up to 26 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed. Strong attention to detail and ability to perform inspection tasks to ensure quality. Ability to follow through on assigned tasks to completion without constant supervision. High School Diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Assembler experience in a manufacturing setting is a plus. Experience assembling items such as furniture or similar products is beneficial, even outside of traditional manufacturing. Electro-mechanical aptitude is desirable, including familiarity with printed circuit boards and electro-mechanical components. Ability to read and work from blueprints or diagrams. Experience with soldering, electrical assembly, and wiring is an advantage. Familiarity with cleanroom or controlled production environments is helpful. Ability to work cross-functionally with individuals and teams to achieve department and production goals. Commitment to continuous process improvement in daily work. Work Environment This role operates in a high-volume, fast-paced production environment where meeting deadlines is crucial. The work area consists of a basic production floor with relatively tight quarters, requiring consistent awareness of surroundings and safe work practices. Assemblers work at their stations for 8+ hours per shift and must be comfortable standing for the entire shift.
Shifts are structured as follows:
first shift runs Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with overtime available on Fridays as needed; second shift runs Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., with potential overtime on Friday from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. The environment involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, air tools, and test fixtures to assemble and test electro-mechanical units. Safety is a priority, with required use of eye protection and protective shoes. The dress code prohibits loose clothing to ensure safe operation around tools and equipment. The setting supports structured production processes while encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Kingstown, RI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
