Job Description
Job Title:
Structural Technician Job Description The Structural Technician drills precision holes, assembles aerospace structural hardware, and performs high-accuracy inspections to ensure components meet strict aerospace tolerances. This role works with aluminum structures, structural adhesives, fasteners, and sealants in a warehouse-based aerospace environment, using specialized tools and fixtures to deliver high-quality, flight-ready hardware. Responsibilities Drill precision holes on flight hardware using appropriate drill motors, drill sizes, and drilling methods, including pneumatic drilling, while maintaining tight tolerances. Select and set up the correct tooling, jigs, egg cups, and fixtures to support accurate drilling and assembly operations. Assemble structural hardware using structural adhesives, ensuring proper surface preparation and bond prepping for reliable joints. Install and properly torque fasteners, including rivets, hiloks, inserts, and other structural fastening systems, using calibrated torque wrenches and torque tools. Perform mechanical assembly of structural components and mechanisms, following detailed work instructions and aerospace specifications. Carry out in-process inspections using hand measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and pin gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances to within thousandths of an inch (±0.001). Perform blending and deburr operations on drilled or machined edges using appropriate hand or power tools to remove burrs and sharp edges. Apply protective treatments such as alodine and sealants to prepared surfaces and completed assemblies to prevent corrosion and ensure long-term durability. Work with aluminum structural components, ensuring proper handling, alignment, and protection of aerospace hardware throughout the build process. Follow 5S practices to maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area within the aerospace warehouse environment. Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, when qualified, to move parts, assemblies, and tooling safely. Document work performed, report any nonconformances or issues, and collaborate with team members to resolve technical or quality concerns. Essential Skills Hands-on experience working with structural components in an aerospace or closely related mechanical assembly environment. Proficiency in drilling operations, including pneumatic drilling, with the ability to select proper drill motors, drill sizes, and techniques for precision hole making. Demonstrated ability to hold precision tolerances to within thousandths of an inch (±0.001) on drilled holes and assembled features. Experience working with aluminum structural components, including proper handling and preparation for drilling, bonding, and fastening. Proficiency using torque wrenches and torque tools to correctly torque fasteners according to specifications. Experience installing structural fasteners such as rivets, hiloks, inserts, and other mechanical fastening systems. Ability to perform mechanical assembly using structural adhesives, including proper bond prepping and adhesive application. Competence in using measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and pin gauges for in-process inspection and verification of dimensions. Experience performing deburr and blending operations using hand or power tools while protecting critical surfaces. Familiarity with applying sealants and protective treatments such as alodine to aerospace hardware. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in aerospace assembly, aerospace technician work, or mechanical assembly of precision components. Understanding of structural mechanisms and how moving components integrate into larger assemblies. Comfort working with mechanical, structural, and sealant application processes in a production setting. Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions, procedures, and technical documentation. Strong attention to detail and quality mindset when working with precision tolerances and flight hardware. Why Work Here? You will contribute to innovative aerospace and space-focused projects in a hands-on, technical environment where precision and craftsmanship are highly valued. The organization promotes long-term opportunities, offering the chance to build a stable career while working with advanced structures and technologies. You will join a team-oriented culture that emphasizes continuous improvement, organized work practices, and pride in producing high-quality aerospace hardware. Work Environment The environment emphasizes 5S principles, with organized workstations, clear tool storage, and clean, efficient production areas. You may operate forklifts or other material handling equipment to move parts and tooling safely within the facility. Work typically involves standing for extended periods, handling components with care, and following safety procedures appropriate to an aerospace production setting.
