Machine Assembler Job Description The Machine Assembler will build large equipment and sheet metal assemblies at a fabrication facility in South Bend, IN. This role involves working at heights and on ladders, assembling sheet metal components with power and hand tools, and ensuring all work meets strict quality and safety standards. The position is hands-on, physically active, and well suited to individuals with mechanical or construction experience who enjoy working as part of a team. Responsibilities Assemble sheet metal panels by fastening joints and seams using screws, bolts, rivets, caulks, and metal drive clips. Use power tools such as drills, grinders, saws, impacts, and plasma cutting equipment to cut, shape, and assemble components. Install insulation and other materials into assemblies according to specifications. Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using tape measures, levels, squares, and calculators. Drill holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets to prepare parts for assembly. Assemble and fit pre-fabricated parts to form subassemblies and complete products. Work on ladders and at heights safely while installing and assembling large control panel structures. Read and follow work instructions, and when applicable, interpret basic blueprints to complete assemblies accurately. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and handling of tools and materials. Collaborate effectively with team members to meet production schedules and quality requirements. Follow all safety guidelines and use required personal protective equipment while operating tools and handling materials. Lift and move materials and components weighing up to 40 pounds throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
