Job Description

Job Summary:
The Painter is responsible for applying black paint or ink to engraved or etched figures, lines, graduations, and markings on precision measuring tools and instruments. This process enhances visibility and readability of measurement scales and markings. The role requires excellent hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and the ability to work with small parts and fine engravings. The position plays a critical role in maintaining the quality and usability of Starrett's world-renowned measuring tools.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Apply black paint, ink, or fill material to engraved or etched figures, graduations, or logos on measuring tools using brushes, rollers, or specialized equipment. Remove excess paint or fill material from non-engraved surfaces without affecting the underlying finish. Visually inspect completed work to ensure clarity, alignment, and quality of markings. Handle and position small precision tools and parts safely and accurately. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and organized condition. Follow work instructions, safety protocols, and company quality standards. Record quantities, work orders, and production data as required. Communicate any defects, inconsistencies, or equipment issues to supervisors. Assist with other finishing operations as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Strong attention to detail and visual accuracy. Ability to work with small parts and read fine engravings or markings. Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions. Basic understanding of paint application techniques. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Previous experience in precision finishing, painting, inking, or a similar role. Familiarity with working in a manufacturing or production environment. Experience working with measurement tools or components is a plus.
Education Requirements:
Minimum High School Diploma or GED
