Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW SCS
Cabinets is the premier cabinet company for both standard and custom cabinets in the southeast United States. We partner with you to design, build, and install cabinets and make your space come to life. Based out of Huntsville, Alabama, SCS Cabinets is seated in the heart of the Tennessee Valley and serves customers locally and across state lines.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Cabinet Finisher (Contractor/1099) is responsible for the final stage of craftsmanship in our production process. This hands-on role involves preparing, staining, painting, and sealing cabinetry components to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is meticulous, takes pride in their work, and understands how a flawless finish transforms cabinetry into a luxury product.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare raw wood components for finishing by sanding, cleaning, and inspecting for defects. Mix and apply stains, paints, glazes, and topcoats using flatline spray equipment and manual techniques. Match finishes to customer specifications or approved samples with consistency and precision. Perform touch-ups, repairs, and finish blending as needed for in-shop and field corrections. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe finishing booth and workspace. Inspect all finished components to ensure they meet SCS Cabinets' quality standards. Collaborate with the Shop Manager and Operations Director to ensure deadlines are met without compromising craftsmanship. Assist with color matching and finish samples for client approval when needed. Follow all safety and environmental regulations related to finishes and materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Degree or GED. 5+ years of experience in cabinet finishing or wood finishing preferred. Strong knowledge of finishing techniques, spray equipment, sanding tools, and finishing materials. High attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Ability to lift, move, and position cabinetry components safely (up to 75 lbs). Familiarity with different wood species and how they respond to stains and finishes. Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
MENTAL / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The mental / physical requirements and environmental conditions of this position consist primarily of: Frequent standing, sitting, and walking Ability to occasionally lift up to 60 lbs Continuous mental and visual attention, requiring constant alertness or activity Ability to talk, hear, and see from near and far distances Exposure to stains, lacquers, and dust; proper PPE provided and required.
