Job Description:
S.A. Morman is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Hollow Metal Finisher/Welder to join our fast-paced, team-driven shop environment. This role combines finishing and welding of light duty steel from 12ga-20ga responsibilities, requiring strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to producing high-quality metal components. The position includes performing precise welding, fabrication, and repair work; reading and interpreting technical drawings; and using specialized tools to create accurate, clean welds. In addition, the role involves cutting, drilling, grinding, applying Bondo, priming, sanding, and finishing metal doors and frames to achieve a professional-grade appearance. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, problem-solving skills, and a dedication to maintaining safety, equipment care, and efficient production workflows. Responsibilities Welding Assemble and weld frames (Light industrial welding) MIG welding hollow metal frames, including special reinforcement components Reading and understanding job orders Operate welding machines, 4.5" and 7" grinders, cutters, and additional hand or power tools as needed Prepare material by cutting, grinding, or shaping metal prior to welding Load and unload from finishing shop as needed Finishing Prep surface for finishing, by cleaning, sanding, and smoothing to ensure proper adhesion of fillers, primer, and paint Grind welds, sharp edges, and sand burs with precision and care Using filler and putty, correctly fill and blend the radius of welded corners Prime and paint metal parts to deliver a professional grade finish Inspect completed parts for quality and accuracy, ensuring standards are consistently met Finish parts to specification using hand tools, portable grinders, and sanding equipment Departmental Attention to detail Verify accuracy of material components Verify order accuracy Quality control of product fabrication Complete work in accordance with established safety procedures Maintain high attention to detail, quality control standards and specifications set forth by the Steel Door Institute. Maintain clean work area Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and project completion Ensure tools are maintained in good working order Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required High school diploma Experienced welder Proven experience in welding, fabrication, or metalworking Strong understanding of welding principles, materials and safety practices Ability to use welding equipment, grinders, cutting tools and measuring equipment Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving ability Ability to stand for extended periods of the day Preferred Experience with 7" grinder, palm sander, Bondo, paint gun, and general metal work Experience with doors frames and hardware Certified Welder
