Job Description
Please Note:
Extra-Help employees are not entitled to County benefits and are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Under close supervision, will work with licensed Agricultural Commissioner staff to assist with program duties in agricultural programs including pest exclusion, pest detection, pesticide use enforcement, pest management, F & V standardization, direct marketing, crop statistics, and other programs related to the agricultural commissioner's responsibilities. Data entry and completion of reports; assist with issuance of permits and certificates. Assist with record keeping. Assist with inspection of pesticide applicators, pest control businesses, farm labor contractors, certified farmers' market producers, commodities, nursery stock, insect detection traps. Assist with education and assistance to growers, the agricultural industry, and the public. Assist with sample collection of pesticide residue samples, phytosanitary inspection samples, biocontrol samples, insect samples, plant samples, etc. Other duties as assigned.Desirable Qualifications:
Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Skills. Basic office equipment skills and knowledge.Desirable Education:
Course work in the following disciplines: Agricultural Science Biological Science Chemical Science Physical Science Mathematics Statistics Position is with the Agricultural Commissioner's Office. Must be at least 18 years old. Please consider the Supplemental Questions before applying. Successful applicants will be required to meet and work at the Agricultural Commissioner's office located at 2139 Wardrobe Ave. in Merced, with possible travel to various locations throughout the county. Flexible hours -- half days are acceptable.
