Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for an Agriculturist, which will work remotely within the West District.
Job Summary
The Agriculturist serves as the primary point of contact for assigned shareholders, providing guidance on sugar beet production and Michigan Sugar Company programs. This role offers agronomic support, ensures alignment with company requirements, and helps optimize crop performance and grower success.
During harvest, the Agriculturist assists in monitoring incoming loads to ensure proper storage conditions and long-term beet quality. The role also supports outreach initiatives, including youth and young farmer programs, and collaborates with internal teams to meet operational and agronomic goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide sound agronomic advice to shareholdersServe as the primary agronomy contact for assigned growers
Recommend best practices for:
Soil fertility
Crop health
Variety selection and placement
Track sugar beet acreage and yields from contracting through harvest
Scout fields throughout the growing season and identify issues such as emergence, disease, insects, and weeds
Guide shareholders through processes including:
Contracting
Share transfers
Early delivery programs
Other cooperative requirements
Collaborate with Agronomists and Agronomy Managers to implement practices that benefit growers and the cooperative
Partner with Agricultural Operations and shareholders to support harvest execution
Manage assigned early delivery lotteries
Work with Ag Logistics to support Maus operations
Support Ag Communications and departmental programs
Promote Michigan Sugar Company in a positive and professional manner
Perform other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications
Associate or bachelor's degree in Agronomy or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience in field consulting or agronomic support preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to provide trusted, practical advice to growers
Strong agronomic knowledge
