Position Overview QA Technician II is responsible for ensuring that production is following the HACCP plan and good GMP's and properly documenting any discrepancies. Additionally, the QA Technician II will oversee all pre-operational and operational inspections with increased problem solving and root cause analysis functions.
Schedule:
Variable Schedule, 5 days on 2 days off 3:00 PM to 11:30PM shift Required weekend availability Essential Functions Conducts Pre-Operational inspections using visual and analytical methods Verifies lot number accuracy by comparing ingredients and packaging to production batch records Performs verification procedures for control points such as check weights, date codes and labeling Performs verification procedures for critical control points for metal detection, bar codes, temperature and pH Verifies accuracy for production scales Available to verify quality components in multiple buildings within a timely manner Conducts daily GMP/Food Safety inspections in production areas, warehouse, dishwashing locations and cold storage Responsible for documenting GMP violations and assuring personnel follow GMPs and good hygiene practices Responsible for performing in-process and final product quality testing for weight conformance, sensory and other associated basic analytical methods Responsible for collecting finished product retention, external laboratory and shelf-life samples according to set testing and sampling frequencies Documents and files retain logs and foreign material deviations. Controls hard documents for quality assurance, sanitation and operations. Performs environmental sampling using aseptic techniques Collaborates with QA and Operations management to investigate and help solve problems on the production floor Responsible for communicating food quality and food safety issues to QA Lead, QA Supervisor and Plant Management in a timely manner Responsible for leading Corrective Action and Preventive Action (CAPA) investigations on quality issues Maintains or facilitates QA labs are adequately stocked and organized in accordance with 5S Lean Complies with company policies and procedures Assists R D team with new product development during trial runs. Works with QA supervisor to outline quality checks and additional responsibilities for QA technicians to perform in new production areas. Actively participate in continuous improvement, lean practices, six sigma, 5S, food safety, environmental and plant safety programs Complies with company policies and procedures Personal responsibility for following safety rules and GMP guidelines Responsible for training QA Technician I when needed Performs other duties as assigned Skills & Knowledge Intermediate MS Office skills highly preferred Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, write, and speak English to properly understand and relay important safety and quality information. Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, team environment Demonstrate ability to actively participate in a positive and engaged team atmosphere Familiarity with lab safety and handling of hazardous materials. Must have a high attention to detail Work well with others to establish and maintain excellent interdepartmental relationships. Dependable and have a flexible schedule. Will work different shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed. Must possess fundamental mathematical skills and demonstrates the ability to read scales Education & Experience 1+ years of Quality Assurance experience required Background and training in the food manufacturing industry, is preferred Associates Degree in science (or higher) required Bilingual Spanish/English a plus Food Industry Experience a plus HACCP, SQF and/or PCQI (Preventative Control Qualified Individual) certification(s) are a plus! Physical Requirements Able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs occasionally; 20 lbs frequently. Able to stand for extended periods of time (10-12 hours per day): One 30-minute break, two 15-minute breaks Able to reach overhead, bend, stoop, and squat Able to report to work without absences or tardiness. Able to work overtime as necessary. Good manual dexterity and capable of performing repeated actions with hands/fingers Able to work in hot or cool conditions for duration of the shift. Comfortable with a moderate noise level Not allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, gluten, or dairy Able to work with or near machinery that produces a magnetic field, such as metal detectors/inductors Able to abide by food safety and human safety guidelines: Any health condition does not pose a risk to the safety of the food being produced or a risk of transmitting the condition to fellow coworkers Able to wear appropriate attire (smock, hair net, latex-free gloves) Able to work in an alert and careful manner (e.g. if taking prescription drugs, these prescription drugs do not cause side-effects [such as dizziness or drowsiness] that may affect the employee's ability to work safely) Eye vision is at level that would not cause unsafe working conditions. Eye glasses/contact lenses are permitted. Mental Requirements Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Able to multitask without loss of efficiency or accuracy, able to work effectively and efficiently in high stress situations Ability to simultaneously address multiple complex problems Ability to work and sustain attention with distractions and/or interruptions while maintaining attention to detail Able to understand, remember and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to perform in situations requiring speed and/or deadlines Able to use computers, i-Pads, and smart phones.
