Job Description

Required Education:
  • High School DiplomaRequired Experience:
  • At least one year of relevant experience

  • The ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the daily management of laboratory samples and document retention systems
  • Support the processing team in sample preparation and analysis of forage samples.
  • Support processing teams with sample processing and testing
  • Tasks include but are not limited to sample grinding, NIR scanning, labeling, and weighing
  • Participate in lab housekeeping program and follow the designated policy
  • Proactively focuses on workplace safety and shows initiative to work safely and follow policy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and associated tools
Overview:
  • The Laboratory Technician will complete routine analytical and laboratory testing in support of the food safety quality and operational teams
  • We are looking for a hardworking person who will perform routine analysis of product testing, being responsible for checking and monitoring instrumentation performance and conducting tests for which we are going to provide intermediate supervision
  • In this role, you will document results into databases and/or communication test results
  • Help develop food/feed safety, quality and regulatory culture, collaborating cross-functionally to build, maintain and improve an effective food safety, quality and regulatory culture
  • Run calibration checks, preventive maintenance tasks, and simple repairs to analytical instrumentation, maintaining customer specifications books up-to-date
  • Interpret and document results of tests into active databases and communicate results to internal customers as required
  • Ensure compliance programs for all individual testing, which includes monitoring adherence to regulations and other procedural food safety compliance
  • Conduct routine quantitative and qualitative inspections and laboratory tests on raw materials, in-process and final products independently, supporting more complex trials and experiments under intermediate supervision
  • Handle clerical, administrative, technical or customer support issues under general supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff
  • Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals)
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
Other Details:
  • Type of Grinder:
    UDY Cyclone mill and Retsch ZM300 are the primary equipment used
  • Samples are around 100 g each, and we are grinding hundreds of samples daily in preparation for further testing
  • Samples are fed into the top of the grinder and then collected into a sample cup after grinding is completed
  • The grinder stations are set up in a room with specially designed airflow to remove particulate from the work area while samples are being ground
  • However, special PPE requirements are still in place when working in this area
  • This seasonal position is to support the lab process during the busy season and to backfill an employee going on leave during this time
Additional Notes:
  • Leather shoes are required for laboratory work
  • It is the resource's responsibility to have adequate footwear before the work starts
  • Contact lenses are not allowed in the laboratory
  • Various ingredient samples that may contain potential allergens are handled routinely in this facility
  • Including but not limited to milk, peanuts, eggs, tree nuts, soy, gluten, fish, and shellfish
  • A clean shave will be required for tasks requiring respirator use
