About the Job
Project Context and Goals:
Summer internship under UMD's "Humanities for Food Justice" Hub will place you with a community nonprofit or a farm to help improve food access for disadvantaged community members. The internship will be with organizations such as the Food Farm, Northern Harvest Farm, Twin Ports Roots Market, Farm to School, and the Duluth Center for Women and Children.
Duties:
Working directly alongside the program staff of the assigned organization, and meeting once monthly on campus with the group of food justice student interns.
The primary responsibilities include:
Be on-site at the mutually agreed-upon times. Most of the work will be hands-on, onsite, involving farming, lifting loads (of food), setting up and tearing down at the food stands or farmers markets, and following site-specific food safety procedures.
Other tasks as assigned, and pending the intern's interests and skills, such as technology or social media-related tasks.
Meet once monthly on campus with the cohort of food justice interns to share and learn from each other.
Schedule:
10-15 hours/week from May 18, 2026 to Aug 14, 2026 (excluding individual vacation time of 2-3 weeks)
Rate:
$15.25/hr
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Must be a registered student of the U of M and maintain the minimum number of UM required credits. Fast learner
Effective communication and collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders
Comfortable with heavy-duty work, such as on the farm and at farmers market
Self-driven and motivated to carry out tasks independently with minimal supervision
Creative problem-solving skills
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range:
$15.25 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
