Job Location:
This position will be domiciled in Jackson or Clay Counties. Applicants must reside in one of the listed counties or be willing to relocate. Applicants in surrounding counties will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Why you'll love this position: The Pesticide Program regulates the sale and use of pesticides in Missouri. As a Pesticide Use Investigator, you would be responsible for managing an area of the state and inspecting licensed pesticide applicators and dealers, verifying pesticides sold in the state are registered, and performing inspections and complaint driven investigations to determine compliance with the Missouri Pesticide Use Act and the Missouri Pesticide Registration Act. The salary indicated represents the current regular pay rate for this position. If the individual selected is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., Years of Service), it will be added to total compensation on their paycheck. A pay differential does not raise base pay. Responsibilities - What you'll do Investigate public complaints for possible violations of state and federal pesticide laws Collect written statements, physical and documentary evidence, and prepare detailed reports Inspect pesticide applicators and dealers by reviewing use and sales records, storage areas and disposal practices for compliance with applicable statutes and standards Inspect pesticide retail establishments for unregistered, cancelled, or restricted-use pesticides Provide educational and regulatory information to the public and regulated community through various speaking engagements Travel frequently in the performance of duties, including potential overnight stays Work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions Required to obtain a public operator license after hire Other duties as assigned Qualifications - All you need for success
Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) or more years of professional or technical experience in plant science, horticulture, biology, or closely related field. Experience can come from a combination of direct work experience and/or completion of a bachelor's degree program with an emphasis in agriculture, plant or soil science, horticulture, biology or a closely related field.
Valid MO Driver's License Preferred Qualifications:
Prior regulatory experience Experience in pesticide use Effective written and oral communication skills Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook Ability to multi-task Lack of post‐secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.
