Position Overview:
The Production Technician is a key member of our production team, responsible for the complete batching and manufacturing process of our Caribbean marinades. This role requires precision, a commitment to quality, and a thorough understanding of food safety protocols. The ideal candidate will be adept at following complex recipes, performing quality control checks, and maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our production equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Marinade Production:
Accurately execute batch recipes for Caribbean marinades, ensuring consistent flavor, texture, and quality in every batch. Operate, monitor, and maintain production equipment such as industrial blenders, mixers, and filling machinery. Perform daily "Mise en Place" by correctly weighing, measuring, and preparing all raw ingredients according to batch sheets.
Quality Control & Assurance:
Conduct in-process and final quality control checks, including pH testing, viscosity, and sensory evaluation (taste/smell). Calibrate and maintain testing equipment, particularly the pH meter, to ensure accurate readings. Maintain meticulous and accurate production logs and records for every batch, ensuring full traceability.
Sanitation & Safety:
Adhere strictly to all cleaning and sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment and production areas. Uphold all company safety, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and food handling regulations to ensure a safe product and work environment. Handle cleaning chemicals safely and effectively.
Inventory & Logistics:
Assist in monitoring raw material inventory levels and report shortages to the supervisor to ensure uninterrupted production. Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles for all ingredients and finished goods.
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or GED required. 1-2 years of experience in a food production, commercial kitchen, or manufacturing environment is highly preferred. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written instructions and recipes precisely. Basic mathematical skills for scaling recipes and calculating measurements. A foundational understanding of food safety and sanitation principles. (ServSafe certification is a significant plus). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods (up to 8 hours). Must be able to work in an environment with varying temperatures, loud machinery, and strong aromas from spices and other ingredients. Hola Island Provisions is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
